Audible Free Trial: 30 Days Free, Standard vs Premium in 2026

Audible offers new customers 30 days free. Standard then renews at $8.99/mo and Premium at $14.95/mo. Here is what each trial includes, what you keep and how to cancel.
Yes, Audible has a free trial. On October 27, 2026, Audible offered new customers 30 days free. After that, the default Standard plan renews at $8.99 a month, and the Premium plan renews at $14.95 a month. What you keep after canceling depends on which plan you tried.

How the Audible free trial works
Audible's free trial page says "New customers only. Auto-renews at $8.99/mo. after 30 days. Cancel anytime." Its membership plans page explains the rest: "Your Audible membership is free for 30 days. If you enjoy your Audible trial, do nothing and your membership will automatically continue. We'll send you an email reminder before your trial ends."
The same FAQ says "You can cancel anytime before your trial ends and you won't be charged. There are no commitments and no cancellation fees." You can listen in the free Audible app on iOS and Android, and on Alexa devices, compatible Fire tablets, Kindles and Sonos.
Audible's Conditions of Use add that Audible decides eligibility for trial memberships, and that when an offer requires a payment method on file, Audible may validate it with a temporary authorization.
Standard vs Premium: which trial to pick
Both plans showed "Try for $0.00" on October 27, 2026. They work differently:
- Standard, $8.99/month after 30 days. You "select 1 audiobook a month from our entire collection" and can listen to it "for as long as you're a member." Unused selections "don't roll over."
- Premium, $14.95/month after 30 days. You get "1 credit a month to buy any title you like," and "This title is yours to keep, even if you cancel your membership." Premium also includes the Plus Catalog of "thousands of select Audible Originals, audiobooks, and podcasts," plus member-only sales.
Audible also showed a limited-time annual Premium offer of $99 for a year, and a "Prime Member Exclusive" banner offering $0.99/month for 4 months plus a $20 Audible credit, then $8.99/month, with "terms apply." These are promotions, not the standard trial, and can end anytime.
What you keep if you cancel
This is the part people miss. Audible's FAQ says: "Any audiobooks you've purchased with cash or credits are yours to keep even after you cancel your membership. You lose access to titles from the Plus Catalog and to any audiobook selections you have made as an Audible Standard member."
So, in practice:
- A book you bought with a Premium credit stays in your library.
- A book you picked with your Standard monthly selection gets locked when you cancel. Audible says locked titles show a lock icon, and "You will regain access to locked titles when you are in a membership."
- Plus Catalog titles also lock.
Use any Premium credit before you cancel. The Conditions of Use say "Credits expire immediately upon the cancellation or termination of your membership unless used prior to cancellation." Audible's FAQ adds that credits otherwise expire 12 months after they're issued. Our post on what happens to unused audiobook trial credits covers this in more detail.
How to cancel the Audible free trial
Audible's Conditions of Use say you can cancel by visiting your Account Details page on Audible.com and adjusting your membership settings, or by contacting Customer Service by phone or chat. Trial members can choose not to continue "by cancelling prior to the end of the trial period."
If you signed up inside the Audible app through the App Store or Google Play, the terms point you to Apple's or Google Play's cancellation steps instead. In that case, follow the store's deadline. For tips on app-store billing, see where to cancel a trial started through Apple.
The terms also say that if you cancel a paid membership, "you will not receive a refund of any fees already paid," so canceling before day 30 is what avoids the first charge.
Can you switch plans later?
Yes. Audible's FAQ says that if you subscribed on the Audible website, "you can contact customer care to switch memberships." If you subscribed in the app, check your app store subscription settings for other available plans.
Bottom line
Audible's 30-day trial is free for new customers, but the plan you pick changes what you keep. If you want a book that stays in your library after you cancel, try Premium and spend the credit before the trial ends.
