EyeCare America — a 30-year-old public service program of the American Academy of Ophthalmology's foundation — connects seniors 65+ with volunteer ophthalmologists who provide a medical eye exam at no out-of-pocket cost, plus up to a year of follow-up care for anything found (glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration). Insurance like Medicare is accepted as payment in full; no insurance means the care is simply free. Eligibility: 65+, haven't seen an ophthalmologist in 3+ years, not in an HMO or VA vision care.
