The public backpack events have ended
Patterson Legal Group's event page lists its Wichita backpack giveaway for July 25 at WSU's Hughes Metropolitan Complex. Children had to attend with an adult, and backpacks with supplies were available only while quantities lasted. HOPE Wichita and Convoy of Hope also distributed backpacks, groceries, and haircuts on July 25.
KWCH reported that completed event and said organizers expected about 1,000 attendees. Neither July 25 event remains a current pickup opportunity.
Donation drives are not pickup events
Maize USD 266's August 4 "Fill the Bus" promotion collected supplies for Maize students and classrooms. The free Chick-fil-A sandwich went to people bringing donations—not families seeking school supplies—and the event has passed. Catholic Charities is collecting supplies and household essentials through August 28 for families it serves.
Its Back-to-School and Essentials Drive is a donation campaign, not a public distribution event. Do not treat its collection locations as giveaway pickup sites.
Some backpack help is targeted
Wichita Public Schools and EverDriven donated backpacks through the "Arrive Ready" campaign. KWCH reported that the backpacks were intended for students experiencing housing instability who were identified under the McKinney-Vento Act. That makes Arrive Ready school-administered assistance rather than an open, walk-up giveaway.
Families affected by housing instability can ask district staff whether their student has been identified for applicable support, but the evidence does not establish a public signup or pickup event.
A current school-meal saving
Every Wichita Public Schools student can receive breakfast free each school day, according to Wichita Public Schools Nutrition Services. This is broadly available and does not depend on finding a one-day giveaway.
