What to Do if Your Cashback Never Shows Up

Learn how to check tracking, rule out exclusions, and file a missing-cashback report before time runs out.
If your cashback never shows up, wait for the normal posting window, then check tracking, eligibility, and your pending balance before you report it. Cashback here means money back from a shopping portal or a credit card after a qualifying purchase. Portals and card programs track purchases in different ways.
The fix depends on which type you used, what broke, and how fast you act.

Give It Time to Post
Online purchases often need a day or more to appear as pending. Linked-card in-store visits can need several days. Check the pending or earnings tab first, then look for the store confirmation email.
Do not re-click or reorder while you wait, because a second order can overwrite tracking.
Did Tracking Break?
Most portal misses come from broken click paths. You need to start at the portal, then stay in the same tab until checkout is done. If you compared prices in another tab or used auto-coupon software, tracking may have switched to another source.
- Click through the portal before you add items to the cart.
- Stay in the same tab and complete checkout without opening other tabs.
- Accept store cookies for that purchase.
- Turn off ad blockers, cookie blockers, and VPNs during the shop.
Was the Purchase Excluded?
Taxes and shipping usually do not earn portal cashback. Gift-card buys, gift-card payments, returns, and cancellations can also remove it. Phone and chat orders often fall outside online tracking.
Using a coupon from outside the portal can void or lower the amount. Read the store earning terms before you report. If the item was returned or canceled, the pending amount will drop or disappear.
How Do You File a Missing-Cashback Report?
File quickly, because reporting windows close fast. Gather order details before you contact support. Keep the same email and card records until the case closes.
Save every reply, case number, and promised follow-up date.
- Order date, store name, order number, and amount.
- Receipt and confirmation email.
- Screenshots of cart, checkout total, and payment.
- Date and time you clicked through the portal.
What If It Is Credit-Card Cashback?
Card rewards fail in four familiar ways, described in a CFPB analysis of several hundred rewards complaints: unclear promo terms, lower value for earned points, hard redemption, and canceled rewards. Read the earn rate, bonus deadline, minimum spend, and redemption rules before you call. Issuers face limits on changing earned rewards.
A CFPB circular on rewards programs says devaluing earned rewards or blocking redemption through vague or buried terms can violate the ban on unfair or deceptive acts. That matters when points lose value after you earned them or redemption paths disappear. Escalate in order and keep proof.
Contact the issuer or portal support first with dates, receipts, and screenshots. If that fails, submit a complaint through the CFPB guide to submitting a complaint or report a deceptive offer through the FTC contact page.
