The Shop Small credit is an American Express cardmember incentive tied to Small Business Saturday. How does the credit work?
Enrollment comes first. A cardmember adds the offer in Amex Offers online or in the mobile app, then makes the qualifying purchase. The recent structure required a single purchase of $50 or more.
Splitting $50 across several smaller transactions did not qualify. The $5 credit generally posted within 90 days. Terms change by year.

Where does a purchase count?
Only purchases at qualifying businesses on the American Express Shop Small Map count. A store may feel small and local but still fall outside the map. Check the map before paying.
Search the business name or address, confirm the location shown, and keep the purchase on the enrolled card. For in-person shopping, ask whether the location processes through American Express. For online orders from a small firm, confirm the seller and checkout match the mapped listing.
Who can use it?
The credit is limited to enrolled, eligible American Express cards. Not every American Express card qualifies. It is also one-time per enrolled eligible card.
One qualifying $50 purchase triggers one $5 credit for that card. Enrollment deadlines matter. Past offers set a cutoff for adding the offer, so a purchase made before enrollment or after the period did not earn the credit.
