Programs that are not public walk-in giveaways
Wonderfund's IMPACT: backpack program serves children and teens engaged with the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families. Its August 14 Boston event is a corporate fundraising and backpack-packing challenge, not a general family sign-up. Cradles to Crayons plans to distribute 70,000 learning-supply backpacks across Massachusetts, southern New Hampshire, and Rhode Island.

Do other free Boston events include school supplies?
Boston After Dark at BCYF Gallivan in Mattapan is scheduled for August 21. The city listing describes a free event with youth programming, food, and unspecified giveaways. It is not advertised as a back-to-school supply distribution.
Families should not assume that "giveaways" means backpacks, notebooks, uniforms, or other classroom items. If school supplies are the main reason for attending, ask the organizer what will be distributed and whether quantities or age limits apply.
