Baton Rouge 2026 backpack events, eligibility rules, and safe no-fee pickup steps for next year.
The top Baton Rouge, LA back-to-school giveaways with no purchase necessary were five in-person backpack events in July and August 2026, plus a year-round school enrollment center. No purchase was needed, meaning families did not have to buy anything, but each event required in-person pickup during listed hours while supplies lasted. These 2026 dates have now passed.
The list below gives what each event offered, who it served, and safe-entry steps to use for next-year events.

What families received
Unstuck Ministries served single mothers with a child entering pre-K to 8th grade with a backpack with supplies, plus books and a 1-year Single Mom University membership. According to Unstuck Ministries, the event ran July 30, 2026, from 9am to 4pm at 12015 Justice Ave Unstuck Ministries 2026 event page. East Baton Rouge Parish Schools gave K-12 students a free backpack filled with supplies at its Drive-Thru Backpack Giveaway.
According to EBR Schools, the giveaway ran Aug. 8 from 10am to 12pm while supplies lasted EBR Schools past Community Engagement events list. The District 7 Pack the Sack event provided hundreds of free backpacks with supplies and haircuts.
RNR Tire Express also directed families to visit a local store to pick up a backpack while supplies lasted during its July 28-Aug. 9 program.
Where and when pickup happened
All five backpack giveaways required an in-person visit. The Capstone at Scotlandville Back to School Bash was listed for July 31, 2026, at 3pm at 8900 Elm Grove Garden Dr., Baton Rouge, LA 70807. According to the City of Baton Rouge, that listing appeared on the city calendar City of Baton Rouge calendar listing.
Other pickup points included the EBR Central Office at 1050 S. Foster Drive, the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Community Center at 4000 Gus Young Ave., and RNR Tire Express at 8030 Florida Blvd. Times were short, from two-hour windows to one-day store hours, so late arrival meant missing out. Because supplies ran out at several events, arrival time mattered as much as location.
Families planning for next year should recheck city, school, or nonprofit pages for new dates.
Who could participate
Eligibility differed by host. Unstuck Ministries limited its giveaway to single mothers with a child entering pre-K to 8th grade. EBR Schools limited its drive-thru event to K-12 students.
The other events were described by neighborhood or district rather than grade. Pack the Sack was hosted for District 7, while Capstone at Scotlandville and the RNR store pickup were listed by Baton Rouge address. Bring ID or enrollment proof if the listing asks for it.
Some events asked that the child be present, so check the event page before leaving home.
How to enter safely with no fee
Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill warns consumers to beware too-good-to-be-true contests, verify secure sites, pay by credit card for purchases, and report disputes. According to the Louisiana Office of the Attorney General, consumers can call the Consumer Protection Hotline at 800-351-4889 Louisiana Attorney General consumer guidance. Do not share bank details or pay to hold a backpack.
Legitimate school-supply giveaways in this list used walk-up pickup, not online payment.
- Arrive early during the posted hours and expect a line.
- Bring the child, ID, or school papers only if listed.
- Never pay a fee, card charge, or shipping cost to claim a backpack.
- Use only the city, school, or nonprofit page for time or address changes.
Year-round help after the events
EBR Schools opened a Welcome Center Aug. 11, 2026, at the former Belfair site. It was created to streamline enrollment and provide homeless students access to school supplies and uniforms year-round.
That center is separate from the one-day backpack events. Families who missed the summer dates can use the enrollment hub to ask about ongoing supply help. For next summer, watch official EBR Schools and City of Baton Rouge pages starting in June for new giveaway times.
