Tech Giveaways in Washington, DC: Updated 2026 List for Local Winners

Find active 2026 DC computer opportunities, eligibility limits, and outdated free-device offers worth avoiding.
Washington, DC does not have one government-published list of tech giveaways for 2026. Verified options include Compudopt computer programs and a national Human-I-T MacBook sweepstakes open to eligible DC adults. "Tech giveaway" may mean a need-based distribution, a device earned through program participation, or a chance-based sweepstakes.
None of these options promises every applicant a device.
Compudopt's DC-Area Computer Giveaway
Compudopt randomly selects registrants when inventory permits. Applicants must live in the surrounding DC area and lack a working home computer, according to the Compudopt DC-area registration page. Before registering:
- Confirm that you do not have a working computer at home.
- Use the DC-area registration page rather than an unrelated event listing.
- Treat registration as a chance for selection, not a device reservation.
A Laptop Program for Participating High School Students
Compudopt also operates Learn2Earn for participating students in grades 9–12. Students who take part receive a refurbished laptop that they can keep. Learn2Earn is a structured program rather than an open public drawing.
Being in an eligible grade does not, by itself, mean a student will receive a laptop; the student must participate in the program.
Human-I-T's National MacBook Sweepstakes
DC residents age 18 or older may enter Human-I-T's MacBook Monthly Sweepstakes. The entry period runs from May 18 through December 1, 2026, and the Human-I-T sweepstakes rules provide a no-purchase mail-in method. This is a national promotion, not a DC-only giveaway.
Three monthly winners come from the combined eligible states and DC pool, with one entry allowed per monthly drawing. Odds depend on the number of entries. MacBook models vary with available inventory.
Prizes are provided "as is," and winners are responsible for applicable taxes.
Technology Access Without Device Ownership
DC Public Schools provides students access to computers, tablets, and other technology for education, research, and career development. These devices are school resources, not a public giveaway that residents can claim for personal ownership. Residents who already have a Wi-Fi-capable device can use free public hotspots maintained in every Ward.
The DC Office of the Chief Technology Officer hotspot page is the practical resource when internet access—not device ownership—is the immediate need.
Outdated Offers to Avoid
Some older DC technology distributions still appear in search results. For example, the District's April 24, 2024 Digital Empowerment Day provided 160 Chromebooks to registered Dream Pitch and Aspire participants; it is not an active 2026 giveaway. Affordable Connectivity Program offers are also outdated.
Enrollment closed and benefits ended June 1, 2024, and the FCC warns that stale enrollment pages may collect personal information. Do not submit personal data to a page claiming to accept new ACP applications.
