Target Circle Deals: Are the Points Worth It This Holiday?

Free Circle bonuses need clipping and expire, while the Circle Card cuts 5% instantly at checkout.

Yes for frequent holiday shoppers, especially with a Circle Card, and only sometimes for occasional shoppers who clip bonuses. Target Circle is Target's free loyalty program for member deals, bonus offers and store-credit rewards. Free members no longer earn automatic points at checkout.

Value now comes from activating specific bonus offers, then using the resulting rewards on a later purchase before they expire.

What free Circle points are now

Target ended automatic 1% Circle Earnings on April 7, 2024. Free members no longer earn 1% for paying with non-Circle Cards, and prior earnings rolled over as Circle Rewards. Free Circle now centers on personalized Target Circle Bonuses.

According to Target Help in the Target Circle Bonus terms, members must activate bonuses on their Deals page and redeem them before the 11:59 p.m. Pacific expiration, and bonuses have no cash value. Rewards earned from bonuses work as store credit for a future Target purchase, not instant savings.

Members must redeem them before they expire or the value is lost.

What the Circle Card changes

Circle Card holders receive an instant 5% discount on nearly all eligible store and Target.com purchases. According to Target in Target's 2025 annual report business section, the card also includes free standard shipping and 30 extra return days, with no annual fee. That 5% comes off at checkout, while bonus rewards apply later.

For a $200 toy order, the card discount lowers the amount paid that day, and any bonus reward goes toward another trip. The card discount has boundaries. It applies only to the portion paid with the Circle Card and excludes items such as prescriptions and some gift cards.

How holiday deal events fit in

Holiday savings mainly come from timed Circle sales, with bonuses and the card discount layered on top. For holiday 2025, Target ran Circle Week Oct. 5-11 with weekly holiday deal drops from Nov.

1, and Black Friday Nov. 23-29 offered up to 50% off toys plus early access for Circle 360 members. For early-holiday 2026, Target held Circle Deal Days Oct.

6-7 with up to 40% off thousands of apparel, home, toy and tech items. According to Target Corporate in the Target September 2026 Circle Deal Days announcement, Circle 360 members could shop select offers starting Oct. 5.

An early-October purchase can therefore earn a bonus for November. A November purchase can create credit for December gifts, if each reward is redeemed before its deadline.

When are the points worth the effort?

Frequent holiday shoppers generally save more with the 5% instant card discount stacked on Circle deals. Occasional shoppers must actively clip bonuses to make points worthwhile, because nothing accrues in the background. Bonuses cannot apply to prior purchases or with competitor price matches.

Check these limits before you pay: Clip only bonuses tied to items you already plan to buy. An unneeded $40 purchase for $5 back in future credit is not holiday savings.

  • Activate each bonus on the Deals page before checkout.
  • Note the 11:59 p.m. Pacific expiration for earning and for redeeming.
  • Use bonus rewards as store credit on a future purchase.
  • Pay with a Circle Card when you want the separate 5% reduction.
