Durham entrants get deadlines, entry paths, odds, and payout notes for three open 2026 drawings.

Sweepstakes in Durham in October 2026 are prize drawings that offer a chance to win with no purchase required, and Durham residents can still enter three of them: Coca-Cola's Product Sweepstakes, Coca-Cola's Daytona 500 Flyaway Sweepstakes, and the NC 529 Dream Chaser promotion. The latest local win was Durham resident Isa Mitchell's $200,000 top prize in the N.C. Education Lottery's $5 CASH scratch-off.

That scratch-off is different because it requires buying a ticket, while the three open drawings do not require a purchase. Dates, age, location, and entry method still limit who can enter and how often. The details below put deadlines and take-home amounts beside each chance.

Verification note: Program terms and availability can change. This page was checked against linked sources on October 10, 2026.

What did Durham just win?

According to the North Carolina Education Lottery, Mitchell bought the winning ticket at Circle K on West N.C. 54 in Durham and claimed $144,021 after tax withholding at lottery headquarters, as described in the North Carolina Education Lottery win report. The $200,000 prize was the first of three top prizes in the $5 CASH game.

The CASH game debuted in August 2026 with top-prize odds of 1 in 1,596,860. Two $200,000 prizes remained after Mitchell's claim. Those odds mean most Durham buyers will not repeat her result.

Her payout also shows the gap between advertised prize and payment. Federal and state withholding reduced $200,000 to $144,021. Lottery-style prizes claimed at headquarters should be read the same way.

Which Coca-Cola drawings are open to Durham?

The Coca-Cola Company rules state that the 2026-2027 Product Sweepstakes is open to legal residents of the 50 states and D.C. age 18 and older, which includes Durham adults, as listed in the Coca-Cola Product Sweepstakes rules. It runs Aug.

17, 2026 to Mar. 31, 2027 in eight entry periods. Entry is through the +one app, QR codes, or ads, with no purchase required.

The company's rules state that the 2027 Daytona 500 Flyaway Sweepstakes has the same 50-state-plus-D.C. adult eligibility area and runs July 15 to Dec. 31, 2026, as listed in the Daytona 500 Flyaway Sweepstakes rules.

It allows one entry per person per day. Entry requires no purchase through a QR code or website plus an account. Both are chances to win, not assured benefits.

"No purchase necessary" still leaves other requirements:

  • Be 18 or older and live in the stated area.
  • Use the stated entry path and account or app access.
  • Enter within the dates and frequency cap.
  • Keep any confirmation for the relevant entry period.

How does the NC 529 drawing work?

The College Foundation of North Carolina promotion enters people who open or contribute to an NC 529 account from Sept. 1 to Oct. 13, 2026 into a random drawing, as described on the College Foundation of North Carolina promotion page.

The prize is a $5,529 contribution to the winner's NC 529 account. On Oct. 10, only three days remain in that window.

This is also a chance, tied to opening or adding to an education-savings account. The benefit arrives as an account contribution, not cash in hand. A Durham resident who already holds an account can qualify through a contribution during the dates.

Timing matters more than location here. The statewide entry window closes Oct. 13, 2026.

An action after that date does not enter this drawing.

What limits should Durham entrants expect?

North Carolina law restricts sweepstakes-cafe-style machines that use an entertaining display, including simulated poker, bingo, slots, or other non-skill video reveals. That rule limits storefront video-sweepstakes play in Durham. It does not block the free national and NC 529 entry paths above.

Scratch-off wins and drawing wins also face different collection steps. Mitchell claimed a large lottery prize at headquarters with withholding applied. Smaller prizes and drawing prizes follow their own claim and tax-reporting rules.

Read each drawing's terms for account, location, age, date, and redemption limits before entering. Enter the still-open drawings through the listed free path, and file the NC 529 action before Oct. 13 if that account fits your plans.
