Smart Speaker Deals: Is Black Friday the Cheapest Time?

See when smart speakers hit past lows and how to decide between October, Black Friday, and Cyber Monday.
No, Black Friday is often not the cheapest time to buy a smart speaker. Past price tracking shows the same low prices appear before Black Friday or on Cyber Monday. A smart speaker is a voice-controlled speaker for music, questions, timers, and home controls.
Shoppers who track prices can often pay the same low amount without waiting for the day itself.

Why Black Friday prices repeat
Which? tracked 175 home and tech products from May 2024 to May 2025. It found 83% were the same price or cheaper at least once outside the four-week Black Friday period, as described in [Which?
price tracking analysis](https://www.which.co.uk/policy-and-insight/article/dont-believe-the-hype-most-black-friday-deals-the-same-price-or-cheaper-at-other-times-of-the-year-which-finds-a3TbD5x5KADs). Which? also found no product was at its cheapest of the year only on Black Friday itself.
That pattern means an early purchase can match the event price. For smart speakers, the same model often returns to the same low price. A November tag does not make the discount new.
When electronics discounts peak
Adobe Analytics measured 2024 U.S. holiday electronics discounts peaking at 30.1% off listed price, based on over 1 trillion retail site visits, as reported in Adobe full-season holiday recap. TVs and computers peaked lower, at 24.2% and 22.8%.
The deepest 2024 electronics discount was available on Cyber Monday, which drew $13.3 billion online, according to Adobe Cyber Monday recap. Black Friday was not the peak discount day that year. Adobe had forecast deepest TV discounts for Black Friday while spreading other electronics peaks across the season.
Smart-speaker buyers face different cheapest days by category.
What past smart-speaker prices show
Amazon's Echo Dot fell to $23 for Black Friday 2023, 54% off $50 list. That price matched its prior low from October's second Prime Day rather than setting a new low, as reported by Engadget in Engadget Echo Dot Black Friday report. Echo Show models showed the same repeat pattern in an early sale.
The Show 5 at $35, Show 8 at $70, and Show 10 and 15 at $170 each matched prior lowest prices. October sales produced those matching lows for several Echo models. Waiting until late November added little price advantage in those cases.
How to avoid paying more
Set a target price based on a prior low, not the claimed percent off. For a Dot-style speaker, that target was $23 in the example above. Price history matters more than the event name.
If you see the prior low in October, buying then can save a wait.
- Note the list price and the repeat sale price for the exact model
- Buy the October low if you need the speaker now
- Check Cyber Monday before assuming Black Friday was lowest
- Skip a deal if the current price is above the last low
