Shake Shack Rewards gives free or discounted food after you finish specific purchase tasks in Challenges, plus account offers such as a birthday shake, a ShackBurger, or fries. You get each item only after you activate it and redeem it on a qualifying order before its stated expiration date. Challenges is a promotional program, not a standing points-per-dollar system.
Shake Shack describes the program in its Terms of Use as earning Rewards by completing the purchase-based tasks shown on each Challenge card.
How do Challenges work?
You join with a registered account in the Shack App or on shakeshack.com. Each Challenge lists its own task, such as ordering a specific item a set number of times within a set window. Past launch examples included ordering any burger twice in 30 days for $10 off the next visit.
Another example tied $5 off to ordering a BBQ sandwich twice by a set date. Earned Rewards must be activated in your account and used at a participating Shack on a qualifying purchase. Shake Shack states in its Terms of Use that each Reward expires on the date shown on the Challenge card.
What free food can appear in your account?
Registered guests can receive a free birthday shake valid for 30 days from the email send date. It is for app or website orders at participating locations, excluding airports, stadiums, and ballparks. Another account offer is one free single ShackBurger per order, with a maximum $8.49 savings.
It requires the burger plus another food or beverage item worth at least $1, used within 30 days. A free-fries account reward is one-time use within 14 days. It covers one fries per order up to $6.99 and excludes paid add-ons such as cheese sauce and bacon, according to Shake Shack's current offers page.
When do seasonal freebies happen?
Seasonal offers use fixed date windows and codes. In October 2026, Shake Shack offered rotating free sandwiches with code SCARYGOOD and a $10 food-and-beverage minimum. The schedule was Chicken Shack Oct.
1–11, cheeseburger Oct. 12–18, and ShackBurger Oct. 19–31.
That promotion has ended, but it shows how timing works: each item was free only during its listed days. Check your account for the current Challenge, code, minimum spend, and end date before you order. A past window does not carry over into November.
What limits apply at checkout?
Most freebies exclude drive-thru and third-party delivery. They also cannot be combined with other promotions. If your location is excluded, the app will not apply the benefit.
Airport, stadium, and ballpark Shacks are common exclusions for account offers.
