Keep prize offers safe

A real sweepstakes does not require payment to enter or claim a prize. The Minnesota Attorney General also states that making a purchase does not improve a person's odds of winning. Minnesota Attorney General guidance makes this a useful first screen for holiday giveaway messages.

Before responding to a prize notice:

• Do not pay a fee to enter or collect a prize.
• Read the redemption window before placing an order.
• Check participating-location limits for food and beverage rewards.
• Treat a discount, a free reward, and a chance to win as different kinds of offers.
