Riverside, CA Back-To-School Giveaways Near Me: Where to Find Legit Deals
See which Riverside backpack events have ended and which verified Target school-supply savings still have time left.
No verified upcoming back-to-school giveaway remains in Riverside, California, as of August 29, 2026. The remaining documented savings are Target offers that may help Riverside shoppers, but they are discounts rather than free backpack handouts. The major local events took place in July and August.
Some other listings were donation drives or school-specific programs, so they were never public walk-in giveaways.

Which Riverside backpack giveaways have ended?
The City of Riverside held its 24th Annual Backpack Giveaway and Resource Fair at Bordwell Park on July 11. K–12 students could receive supply-filled backpacks, but children had to attend, distribution was first-come, first-served, and exchanges were unavailable, according to the City of Riverside event listing. Riverside County Child Support Services followed with a Family Support Resource Fair at 2081 Iowa Avenue on August 8.
The event included backpacks, school supplies, free haircuts, and resource connections while supplies lasted, but the county's announced event date has passed.
Why other 2026 listings are not current giveaways
Target's Riverside back-to-school shopping event occurred on August 4. It was a single dated community event, not an ongoing giveaway that families can still visit. RUHS accepted donations for its Fill-A-Backpack Drive from July 20 through August 7.
The supplies were intended for children and youth receiving RUHS Behavioral Health services; the drive was not an open public pickup event. Scholarship Prep Riverside provides needed supplies and materials to its enrolled students during the school day. That support is tied to school enrollment rather than Riverside residency alone, so it should not be treated as a community walk-in offer.
What school-shopping discount is still active?
Verified college students and teachers can receive 20% off one qualifying storewide purchase through September 12, 2026. Target Circle membership and eligibility verification are required, as detailed in Target's back-to-school announcement. This is a one-purchase discount, not a free supply offer.
Shoppers should complete verification before planning a larger purchase and confirm that their chosen items qualify.
Which advertised supply prices still have time left?
Target's current deals page lists select Five Star folders for $2.39 and select Crayola products and up&up notebooks for $0.99 through September 19. Select Sharpie S-Gel pens are listed for $4.89 through October 17 on the Target back-to-school deals page. These prices apply only to select products, and availability and pricing can vary.
Check the exact item and current price before traveling or completing an order.
How to evaluate the next local giveaway notice
A dated post can remain online after distribution ends. Before making a trip, check: Riverside's Open Rewards app is a continuing way to earn rewards at participating local businesses, but it is not a school-supply giveaway. Its value depends on where a shopper spends and which businesses participate.
- Whether the event date is still ahead.
- Whether the listing distributes supplies or collects donations.
- Whether participation requires enrollment, verification, or a child's attendance.
- Whether supplies are first-come, first-served.
- Whether the benefit is free merchandise, a discount, or a rewards program.
