Only Chick-fil-A offers a no-purchase food freebie; Hawaiian Bros provides a buy-one-get-one-free plate lunch. Here, "freebie" means food available without a required purchase.
Both promotions depend on specific events during Royals games, and each has location, timing, and app requirements.
Which offer is actually free?
Chick-fil-A offers free food to eligible fans attending games at Kauffman Stadium. The qualifying baseball play determines whether attendees receive a chicken sandwich or five-piece nugget reward. Hawaiian Bros is different because customers must buy one plate lunch to receive another.
It can still reduce the cost of feeding two people, but it is not a no-purchase giveaway.
How Hawaiian Bros Plates for Plates works
Royals fans trigger the offer when the team scores at least six runs during a home game. Hawaiian Bros then gives eligible HB Rewards members a free Classic Plate Lunch with the purchase of another plate lunch, according to the company's Plates for Plates promotion page. Customers must join HB Rewards by midnight on the qualifying game day.
They also need to select a participating restaurant as their favorite location before the next-day offer arrives. Kansas City–Barry Road and Kansas City–Ward Parkway appear among the participating Missouri restaurants. Hawaiian Bros locations inside Kauffman Stadium are excluded.
The reward is limited to one BOGO offer per eligible member per calendar day. It must be redeemed on the day it becomes available, and Hawaiian Bros may modify or discontinue the promotion.
What Chick-fil-A gives Royals attendees
A Royals player must hit a home run off the foul pole to trigger a free Chick-fil-A Chicken Sandwich. The Royals sponsor-offer page limits the reward to eligible attendees at Kauffman Stadium. A different play can unlock a smaller freebie.
When the Royals turn a double play during the second inning, eligible attendees can receive a free five-piece Chick-fil-A Nugget reward. Neither reward requires a food purchase under the documented terms. However, being a Royals fan or watching elsewhere does not qualify someone for these stadium-based offers.
What should fans do before the game?
For Hawaiian Bros, prepare before midnight on the qualifying game day. Confirm that you have joined HB Rewards and selected a participating favorite location. If the Royals reach six runs at home, check for the reward the next day and use it that same day.
For Chick-fil-A, attendees must be inside the Kauffman Stadium giveaway area when the qualifying play occurs. Current location permission must be enabled for the Chick-fil-A app, so turning it on after leaving the stadium may be too late. The Chick-fil-A coupon expires at the end of the following day.
That gives qualifying attendees a longer redemption window than Hawaiian Bros, whose BOGO reward requires same-day use.
