Regal on a Friday Night: The Cheapest Way to See a 2D Movie (With or Without Popcorn)

Friday at 7 p.m. is Regal's priciest time slot, and the Tuesday discounts don't apply. Here's how to pay less for a standard 2D showing tonight, and what to do about popcorn.
A standard 2D movie at 7 p.m. on a Friday is about as full-price as moviegoing gets. It's peak evening pricing, and Regal's best-known discount, Tuesday Value Days, doesn't apply. You can still cut the cost. Here's what actually works for a Friday night at Regal, ranked from easiest to most involved.
The quick answer
- Just the ticket, going once: Join the free Regal Rewards program. If your theater's box office is open, consider buying there, because Regal's own materials describe online convenience fees as something its paid tier lets you avoid. For the ticket itself, a Groupon Regal Premiere ticket (recently $13.74) or a discounted Costco Regal gift card (recently $39.99 for $50) usually beats paying full price. See section 4 for which one wins.
- Ticket plus popcorn: Join Regal Rewards and look for the member-only small popcorn + soda combo, which Regal's promotions page lists at $9.
- You go monthly: Compare Regal Rewards+ (from $10.99 a month, with one 2D ticket included) against your theater's Friday evening price.
- Your schedule is flexible: Move the trip to a Tuesday for discounted tickets and 50% off popcorn.
1. Join Regal Rewards first (free)
Regal's loyalty program, now called Regal Rewards (formerly Regal Crown Club), is free to join in the Regal app or at regmovies.com. On a Friday it won't discount your ticket on its own. It's still worth doing before you buy, because:
- You earn points on tickets and concessions that you can redeem later for snacks and tickets.
- Member-only concession deals show up in the app. Regal's promotions page lists a $9 small popcorn + soda combo for members.
- Membership unlocks Tuesday Value Days and the other member promotions Regal runs during the year.
Join before you check out so the purchase counts toward your points.
2. Watch out for online convenience fees
Regal's September 2026 Rewards+ announcement lists "avoid online convenience fees" as a paid-tier perk, so online ticket orders can carry a per-ticket fee. Fees vary, so compare the total before you pay. If you're buying for a group, the fee adds up. A 7 p.m. Friday show can sell out, though, especially opening weekend. For a popular new release, paying the fee to lock in seats may be worth it.
3. Consider Regal Rewards+ if you go once a month or more
Regal launched Regal Rewards+ on September 15, 2026. According to Regal's announcement, it costs from $10.99 a month (varies by ZIP code) and includes:
- One 2D ticket every month, which rolls over if you don't use it
- Up to four additional discounted tickets a month
- 20% off movie snacks and non-alcoholic drinks
- No online convenience fees on eligible Rewards+ ticket purchases
A standard 2D Friday night show is exactly what that included ticket covers. If your theater's adult evening price is well above your ZIP code's Rewards+ price, one movie a month already comes out ahead, and the 20% concession discount adds to the savings. Before you sign up, read the plan terms in the app. Regal's announcement doesn't spell out cancellation rules, and it's a recurring charge. If you go only a few times a year, skip it.
If you go several times a month, Regal also offers Regal Unlimited, a separate monthly subscription. It's built for frequent moviegoers, so compare its price in your area against Rewards+.
4. Discounted tickets and gift cards: Groupon vs. Costco
For a full-price Friday ticket, this is where the real savings are. There are two good options, and they work differently.
Groupon Regal Premiere tickets
Groupon sells Regal Premiere eTickets, one admission per code. When we checked on November 6, 2026, the Groupon Regal listing showed:
| Option | Groupon price | Listed value |
|---|---|---|
| 1 Premiere ticket | $13.74 | $21 |
| 2 Premiere tickets | $27.48 | $42 |
| 4 Premiere tickets | $54.96 | $84 |
| 1 Premium Format ticket (IMAX, 4DX, RPX, ScreenX) | $19.23 | $25.99 |
- What it covers: most standard 2D movies at any Regal theater, any day, which includes a 7 p.m. Friday show. It doesn't cover premium formats (those need the Premium Format ticket) or special screenings such as Fathom Events, marathons, fan screenings, and some foreign-language films.
- How to use it: you get one 15-digit code per seat. Enter it in the payment step on regmovies.com or in the Regal app, or redeem it at the box office. Two seats means two different codes.
- Fees: buyers report that booking online still adds Regal's convenience fee. Redeeming at the box office is the way to avoid it.
- No popcorn: concessions aren't included. Groupon sells snack deals separately.
- Non-refundable per the listing, so buy only what you'll use.
- Get your code before you leave home. On a phone, Groupon may push you toward its app to see your voucher. Here's how to view a Groupon voucher without the app.
"Never expires" but also an expiration date? The listing says Premiere tickets "never expire," but it also shows an "Expires" date of April 25, 2027. Groupon's own terms explain the mismatch. A Groupon voucher has two values: the amount you paid, which doesn't expire until you use it or get a refund, and the promotional value (the discount on top), which can expire on the printed date. After that date, the merchant only has to honor at least what you paid. Simple rule: use the code before the printed date and you get the full ticket with no question. Check the "Need to know" section of the deal before you buy, because a deal's own fine print controls if it differs.
Costco Regal gift card
Costco has been selling a $50 Regal eGift card for $39.99, which is 20% off. Deal trackers list the price for October 30 to November 30, 2026, but stock comes and goes, so check the Costco listing for the current price. A Costco membership is required. Costco lists the card as non-refundable, with no expiration date, and you can use it at the box office, concession stand, kiosks, regmovies.com, and the Regal app. Unlike a Premiere ticket, it covers popcorn and drinks too.
Which one wins?
- Ticket only, expensive theater: Groupon wins whenever your theater's Friday 2D adult price is above about $17.20. That's the price where a $13.74 Premiere ticket saves more than 20% off with the Costco card.
- Ticket only, cheaper theater: the Costco card wins below that. One buyer at a lower-priced theater said the Groupon ticket only saved about $1.
- Ticket plus popcorn: combine them. Use a Groupon Premiere code for the seat and pay for concessions with the Costco card (20% off) and any member combo.
- Going tonight: both arrive digitally, but give yourself time for delivery and don't buy at the last minute before the show.
AAA, Sam's Club, and some employer perk portals also sell discounted Regal tickets or gift cards. If you belong to one, compare its price too. Buy only from Regal, Groupon, a warehouse club, or another seller you trust. Treat steeply discounted cards from strangers or resale listings as high risk.
5. Ask about senior, child, and military pricing
Regal theaters typically price tickets for children and seniors lower than adult tickets, and some locations offer military or student pricing. The age cutoffs and discounts are set by each theater. Check the ticket types offered for your showtime in the app, or ask at the box office.
The popcorn question
Popcorn is usually where a cheap movie night stops being cheap. Your options on a Friday:
| Option | Best for | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Skip concessions | Lowest total cost | Check your theater's outside-food policy before bringing snacks. |
| Member small popcorn + soda combo | One person who wants a snack | Listed at $9 for Regal Rewards members on Regal's promotions page. |
| Regal Rewards+ 20% off | Monthly moviegoers | Applies to snacks and non-alcoholic drinks. |
| 2026 Snack Saver | People who buy large popcorn often | A one-time purchase that Regal lists at $39.99, for discounts on large popcorn and large soft drinks through December 31, 2026. It only pays off if you go several more times before it ends. |
| Birthday reward | Your birthday month | Regal Rewards members get a free small popcorn. See our birthday popcorn guide. |
For two people sharing, a large popcorn usually beats two smalls. Compare per-size prices on your theater's menu in the app before you order.
If you can move the day: Tuesday Value Days
Regal's best regular deal is Value Days. On Tuesdays, Regal Rewards members get discounted movie tickets and 50% off popcorn. Regal also lists 25% off candy for members on Mondays. The exact Tuesday ticket price varies by theater, and premium formats usually cost extra. If you aren't set on Friday, moving to a Tuesday is the biggest single saving, especially if you want popcorn.
A Friday-night checklist
- Join Regal Rewards in the app (free) before you buy anything.
- Price a Groupon Regal Premiere ticket against your theater's Friday price, and check Costco for the $50-for-$39.99 Regal gift card if you're a member.
- Pick a standard 2D showing, not RPX, IMAX, 4DX, ScreenX, or 3D, which cost more.
- Compare the online total, fees included, with buying at the box office.
- Look for the member popcorn + soda combo instead of ordering items separately.
- If you'll be back next month, price out Regal Rewards+ for your ZIP code.
Prices, fees, and promotions are set by Regal and vary by theater and ZIP code. Regal can change them at any time. Groupon and Costco prices change often. Last checked November 6, 2026 against Regal's published announcements and promotion pages, the Groupon listing, and Groupon's Terms of Sale. Confirm current terms in the Regal app before you buy.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Regal have any Friday discounts?
Regal's regular discount days are Tuesdays (discounted tickets and 50% off popcorn for members) and Mondays (25% off candy). Friday evening is standard pricing, so your best levers are membership perks, discount gift cards, and avoiding fees.
Is Regal Rewards free?
Yes. The base Regal Rewards program is free. Regal Rewards+ and Regal Unlimited are paid monthly subscriptions.
Does the Regal Rewards+ monthly ticket work on a Friday night?
Regal describes it as one 2D ticket each month. Its announcement doesn't list showtime restrictions, but check the terms in the app for your theater before you count on it.
Can I bring my own snacks to Regal?
Policies are set by each theater and generally don't allow outside food. Check with your location first.
Do Groupon Regal Premiere tickets work on a Friday night?
Yes, for most standard 2D movies. The listing says they're valid any date. Premium formats and special screenings are excluded.
Groupon says the Regal ticket "never expires" but shows an expiration date. Which is it?
Under Groupon's terms, the amount you paid doesn't expire, but the promotional value can expire on the printed date (April 25, 2027 on the listing we checked). Use the code before that date to be safe.
Is the Costco Regal gift card good for popcorn?
Yes. Costco says the card works at concession stands as well as for tickets, so it effectively takes 20% off snacks too.
Is the Snack Saver worth it for one Friday movie?
Usually not. It's a one-time purchase meant for people who buy large popcorn and drinks on many visits before the end of 2026.
