Check eligibility, booking limits, guest rules, and the cancellation cutoff before reserving an NYC Culture Pass.

NYC Culture Pass lets eligible library cardholders age 13 or older reserve free admission to more than 100 New York City cultural institutions. According to Culture Pass, select "Reserve a Pass," choose your library system, sign in, and search by date or venue. The pass is tied to a particular visit, and booking limits apply.

Check eligibility and guest rules before committing to a date.

Who is eligible?

You need a full-service card from Brooklyn Public Library, New York Public Library, or Queens Public Library. Cardholders must be at least 13 years old. E-cards and out-of-state cards do not qualify, according to the Culture Pass Privacy & Terms.

If you only have one of those card types, you will need an eligible full-service card before reserving.

How to reserve a pass

Follow these steps: Searching by date works well when your schedule is fixed. Searching by venue is more useful when you have a particular museum or institution in mind.

  • Select "Reserve a Pass" on the Culture Pass website.
  • Choose Brooklyn Public Library, New York Public Library, or Queens Public Library.
  • Sign in with your library-card information.
  • Browse passes by your preferred visit date or cultural institution.
  • Review the selected pass and its admission details before reserving.

When to look and how often you can book

Eligible users may reserve up to one month ahead. NYC311 says new passes are released on the first day of each month, making that an important date to check. The Culture Pass terms limit each cardholder to one pass per participating institution per year and four active reservations at a time.

Four open reservations therefore cannot include repeat passes for the same institution.

Guest, entry, and cancellation rules

The named passholder must use the reservation on its specified date, and the venue may request matching valid identification. Passes generally include one guest, but individual rules vary: some institutions allow up to three guests, while certain fixed-seat venues limit the pass to one person. Download or print the pass before the visit.

Once you retrieve it, you cannot cancel it, so the Culture Pass Privacy & Terms recommend waiting until your plans are firm before downloading.
