Early registration, residency or custody proof, children present, and supplies until exhausted are common limits. Never pay a fee, wire money, or share a gift-card number to claim free toys or food, according to CNN reporting on FTC guidance in its Dec. 12, 2025 report on gift-card scams.
Report that type of demand at ReportFraud.ftc.gov and contact the nonprofit directly.
- Photo ID, proof of address, proof of custody or guardianship, and birth dates for each child
- Children present when the flyer says children must attend
- Registration confirmation, ticket, or referral letter when required
- Bag, cart, or trunk space for toys and food boxes
