Military Discount Codes Online: How to Verify They're Real

Check a military discount before you check out: verification steps, IDs, and retailer terms to confirm.

A real online military discount is verified on the retailer's own site or checkout, not through a copied code from elsewhere. Look for a prompt to verify service, after which the discount applies automatically or the retailer issues its own code. Verification here means a short check of service on that same site.

The check links the discount to one shopper.

Verification note: Program terms and availability can change. This page was checked against linked sources on November 04, 2026.

How a real discount works online

The ID.me Help Center explains that discounts start with a verification prompt such as Verify with ID.me on the retailer's own site or checkout how retailers connect discounts to ID.me verification. After that check, the discount applies automatically or the retailer issues its own code. The same walkthrough asks shoppers to complete a short sequence.

Follow the steps in order on that same page: Use only the code the retailer gives you after this check. Codes copied from elsewhere do not carry the same link to service.

  • Sign into or create an ID.me Wallet
  • Select military status and enter service credentials
  • Confirm legal identity
  • If prompted, confirm a .mil email or upload an acceptable military document
  • Select Allow to share status with the retailer

What will SheerID ask for?

SheerID's Military FAQ states it checks name as shown on military records, branch, status, date of birth, and contact details against authoritative data how SheerID checks military eligibility. When instant checks fail, it asks for a government document showing name, branch, current affiliation, and discharge date if relevant. Start the check from the participating brand's own offer page.

SheerID handles only the eligibility check, so send purchase questions to the retailer's support. It states it never sells submitted information and permanently deletes uploaded documents. You may black out unrelated sensitive details, but the name you enter must match the document.

Upload only documents you are legally allowed to share.

What does a veteran photo ID cover?

The Department of Veterans Affairs notes the Veteran ID Card is a digital photo ID about the Veteran ID Card for discounts. It is accepted for veteran discounts at many stores, restaurants, hotels, and businesses. It lets holders avoid carrying discharge papers or sharing sensitive personal data.

It requires qualifying service plus an honorable or general-under-honorable-conditions discharge. Participation is voluntary for each retailer. Vendors set their own eligibility rules and limits, and a business offering discounts is not thereby endorsed or favored by VA.

Always confirm terms on the retailer's own military-discount page.

When should you pause and report?

The Federal Trade Commission points to its reporting portal for suspected fake discount sites where to report suspected fake discount sites. Use it if a page copies a retailer's name but the address and checkout do not match that retailer. Stay in the retailer's own checkout and verification flow.

If a code fails, return to that retailer's own military-discount page and read its limits before trying again.
