LIHEAP 2026 Application Deadlines: What to Know
Check Illinois, Pennsylvania and Missouri LIHEAP dates and apply early before funds run out.
There is no single national deadline for LIHEAP, the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, for 2026-2027. Each state sets its own heating-season window, so your dates depend on where you live. As of early November 2026, several states are already taking applications.
Funding is limited, so eligible households should apply early through their state portal, county office, or local agency.

Why each state sets its own dates
LIHEAP is a federal block grant. That structure lets states choose opening dates, closing dates, and heating-season rules for their residents. Renters and homeowners can qualify based on household size and income.
They do not need to be on other aid or behind on bills to seek help, but benefits depend on available funding.
When can Illinois households apply?
According to the Office of Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker, Illinois opened October 1, 2026 and stays open through August 13, 2027, or until funds are exhausted Illinois 2026 LIHEAP announcement. That long window still closes early if money runs out.
According to the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, access is staggered by priority group Illinois application timing guide. Older adults, people with disabilities, families with young children, and disconnected households started October 1, 2026. All other income-eligible households started November 1, 2026.
When does Pennsylvania's season run?
According to the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services, the 2026-2027 season runs November 2, 2026 through April 23, 2027 Pennsylvania 2026-2027 LIHEAP season page. It offers one-time cash grants of $200 to $1,000. The grant is paid directly to the utility or fuel vendor.
A household applies once during the open window for that heating-season payment.
What are Missouri's deadlines?
According to the Missouri Department of Social Services, Energy Assistance ends May 31, 2027 Missouri 2026-2027 LIHEAP application guide. Elderly or disabled households apply from October 1, 2026. Other households apply from November 1, 2026.
The same Missouri guide lists crisis aid separately. Winter Crisis aid requires a disconnect notice. It runs November 1, 2026 to May 31, 2027 for elderly or disabled households and December 1, 2026 to May 31, 2027 for others.
