How to Track a Package During the Holiday Rush?

See holiday scans, delay notices, and delivery photos with one tracking number and free carrier alerts.

To track a package during the holiday rush, copy the tracking number from your order confirmation or shipping notice and paste it into that carrier's tracker or app. A tracking number is the carrier's code for your parcel, and the tracker shows scan history and estimated delivery. Holiday volume can make scans pause and dates shift.

Set alerts once, check the same tracker each time, and leave extra time for gifts.

Start with the number from your order

Find the number in your order confirmation, shipping notice, or store account. FedEx explains that pasting the number into its tracker shows scan history and estimated delivery in the guide for tracking and managing deliveries. Keep the number until the item arrives.

If the sender split an order, track each parcel separately. One number shows one parcel path, not the whole order.

  • Copy the number from the store or shipping email.
  • Paste it into the carrier tracker or app.
  • Read the latest scan, location, and date estimate.

Set alerts once instead of checking all day

Alerts save time when delivery times change. USPS Informed Delivery is free and shows preview images of incoming mail plus package status, with automatic text or email alerts and delivery details. UPS My Choice members can get text, email, or push alerts and see eligible packages in a dashboard without entering each number.

FedEx says its free Delivery Manager sends alerts by email, text, phone, or app and adds map view and picture proof of delivery in the Delivery Manager page. It also offers holds, redirects, and virtual signature options.

Why holiday tracking can look stuck

A parcel may sit without a new scan for a day or more. That pause often means it is moving between facilities, waiting for a truck, or queued at a busy hub. USPS called the week of Dec.

15 its busiest week of 2025 and listed Dec. 25, 2025 and Jan. 1, 2026 as closed days in the USPS news release about the busiest week of 2025.

Ground dates can shift in that kind of peak, so order early and pad arrival plans by a day or two.

Skip the fake delivery text

Do not click a delivery link from an unexpected text. USPS texts only after you ask to track a specific package. Type the carrier address yourself instead of tapping a link.

USPS recipients can text a tracking number to 28777, or 2USPS, for updates by text, and reply to stop messages. The FTC advises typing the carrier address directly, forwarding suspicious texts to 7726, and reporting them at ReportFraud.ftc.gov in the guide to recognizing and reporting spam text messages.
