How to Set Up a Separate Email for Giveaway Entries

Keep entry mail out of your main inbox with a dedicated address, filters, and safe win checks.

Create a mailbox used only for entries, then add filters and a send-as address to manage it. A dedicated address keeps confirmations and winner notices separate from your primary inbox. An alias is an extra address tied to the same account.

You can use one for entries while signing in as usual.

Why keep entries apart?

A separate mailbox keeps entry confirmations, marketing follow-ups, and extra mail isolated from daily messages. Google Gmail Help notes that separation also makes winner notices easier to monitor in one place with a dedicated address for entries. Use the entry inbox only for forms, confirmations, and prize messages.

Check it on a regular schedule during entry periods so time-sensitive replies do not sit unseen.

Should you use a new inbox or an alias?

A new inbox works well when you want full separation. An alias works well when you want fewer passwords to manage. Microsoft Support says you can attach an alias to the same Microsoft account, sign in with the same password, and share one Outlook.com mailbox through adding another address to your account.

Use the alias on entry forms and keep your first address for personal mail.

How do you set it up?

Pick one provider for all entries and create the address first. Then connect sending and sorting so replies stay organized. Google Gmail Help explains that you can hold up to 99 send-as addresses and choose the From address for each message.

Starting January 2027, Gmail will no longer support Send as for third-party addresses such as @yahoo.com or @outlook.com, while Google Workspace aliases and other Gmail addresses you own are unaffected.

  • Create the entry mailbox or alias and use it only on entry forms.
  • Add addresses you own under Settings > Accounts > Send mail as, verify ownership, then pick the From address per message.
  • Create a filter through Show search options > Create filter to label entry mail, skip the inbox, star winners, or delete repeats.

How do you sort entry mail automatically?

Filters move matching mail before it clutters the inbox. Google Gmail Help describes how filters can label, archive, delete, star, or forward matching mail after you select Show search options and Create filter with filter rules for incoming mail. Label by phrase such as entry confirmation, winner, prize, or sponsor name.

Archive low-value newsletters from the entry inbox but keep messages with entry numbers, dates, and prize details.

How do you handle winner notices safely?

Treat unexpected prize mail as a prompt to verify, not a prompt to click. CISA advises never clicking links or opening attachments in unexpected emails and going directly to the retailer's site instead, plus never giving personal information unless completely sure, in guidance on avoiding phishing lures. If a message claims you won, open a browser and visit the retailer's site directly.

Enter only the details requested through that normal contact or account path.
