How to Redirect a Package to a Pickup Point?

See who can move a parcel to a locker or counter, how to request it, and what to bring for pickup.
To redirect a package to a pickup point, use the carrier's tracking tool before final delivery and choose a hold, locker, or store option. A pickup point is a staffed counter, partner store, or locker where you collect the parcel instead of waiting at home. Who can request the change matters.
Some carriers let the recipient redirect, while USPS Package Intercept allows only the sender or an authorized representative to act.

How do FedEx and UPS recipients redirect?
According to FedEx, recipients can enter the tracking number and select Manage Delivery then Hold at Location, as described in FedEx hold-at-location details. Then they can choose a FedEx Office, Walgreens, Dollar General or other partner. Act while the parcel is still in transit, before the delivery attempt.
According to UPS, recipients can track on UPS.com and use Change My Delivery through UPS My Choice, as described in UPS My Choice delivery options. They can select Deliver to a UPS Access Point or Hold at UPS Location before delivery. The request must happen before the carrier completes delivery.
UPS notes that pickup needs a valid government-issued photo ID matching the recipient plus the tracking or InfoNotice number. When the shipper requires it, the collector also needs the shipper-provided release code.
Why must USPS changes come from the sender?
According to USPS, Package Intercept lets only the sender or authorized representative redirect a domestic tracked item, as described in USPS Package Intercept guidance. The item must not yet be out for delivery or delivered. The online request with a USPS.com account can ask for return to sender or Hold for Pickup at a Post Office for a fee.
Senders can avoid that later step at label creation. USPS says Click-N-Ship offers free Hold for Pickup, so the parcel goes directly to the named Post Office counter. Recipients cannot use Intercept themselves, so they should contact the sender quickly if door delivery will fail.
How do DHL and Amazon handle pickup changes?
DHL says registered customers can use parcel redirection or On Demand Delivery for house-addressed parcels. They can choose a Packstation if authorized for Packstation use, or a postal outlet or Parcelshop branch. Registration and Packstation authorization must already be in place.
According to Amazon UK Customer Service, only eligible shipments can move to an Amazon Hub Locker through the Shopping app, as described in Amazon UK locker redirection help. The change must happen before the parcel reaches the delivery station. Oversize items over about 42x35x32 cm and 4.5 kg in the UK are excluded, and locker parcels must be collected within a few days.
What should you check before you go?
Timing decides whether redirection works. FedEx and UPS need the request before delivery, USPS Intercept needs action before the parcel goes out for delivery, and Amazon needs action before the delivery-station stage. A late request can leave the parcel at the door or send it back.
According to FedEx, held parcels stay available for up to 7 days before return to the shipper. Late pickup can therefore lose the parcel, so confirm the pickup location hours and go promptly.
- Request the hold as soon as tracking shows the parcel is moving.
- Bring photo ID and the tracking number or delivery notice.
- Save any release code the sender provides for UPS pickup.
