How to Make Extra Cash Driving for Delivery Apps in December

Track promo zones, time dinner rushes, and log miles to keep more extra December delivery pay.
To make extra cash driving for delivery apps in December, check each app's promos before you drive and pick shifts in busy zones during dinner and weekend rushes. Take only offers where the payout covers time, gas, and wear after costs. A Dasher is a DoorDash delivery driver.
Peak Pay is extra pay DoorDash adds for eligible deliveries, while Boost+ is Uber's extra pay for trips that start in set zones during set hours.

Why does December bring more chances?
Holiday shopping lifts order volume. The National Retail Federation reported core November-December 2024 retail sales grew 4% over 2023 to a record $994.1 billion, with December core sales up 4.2% year over year, in the Federation's holiday sales release. More packages, groceries, and restaurant orders can mean more offers near malls, grocery stores, and restaurant rows.
That demand clusters around evenings, weekends, and bad-weather days. You still choose which offers to take. Focus on short trips with little waiting time.
How do DoorDash extras work?
DoorDash limits Peak Pay to select drivers at select times and areas, shown in the app Promos tab, according to DoorDash. Multiple same-start incentives combine into one larger per-delivery amount, as explained in the DoorDash Peak Pay help page. Open the Promos tab before you leave home.
Note the map area, hours, and per-delivery amount. Drive inside the marked area and stay online for the full window. If you leave the zone, you can lose the extra.
How do Uber extras work?
Uber says Boost+ pays extra for completed trips starting in designated blue zones during specific time windows, with auto-enrollment and stacking on top of Quest and other promotions, in the Uber Boost announcement. Check the map for blue zones and time windows before a shift. Position nearby, not far away, so you start trips inside the zone.
Stacking means the extra sits on top of other active promos. Track which zones paid more last week and return to those blocks first.
How do you keep more of what you earn?
December miles add up fast. The IRS set business standard mileage at 76 cents per mile for July 1-Dec. 31, 2026, so December 2026 driving is deductible at that rate, per the IRS standard mileage rates page.
That rate applies only if you track business miles and qualify to claim them. Keep delivery driving separate from personal errands. Use this simple log each shift: Log odometer readings each shift so you can support December miles at 76 cents.
- record odometer at start and end of deliveries
- save gas, toll, and parking receipts in one folder
- note promo pay separately from tips and base amounts
