How to Get TSA PreCheck Discounts Before Holiday Travel

Compare provider fees, renew online, and use a card credit to cut TSA PreCheck costs before holidays.

You can get TSA PreCheck discounts before holiday travel by choosing the lowest-cost provider, renewing online, and using a card statement credit. TSA PreCheck is a program that lets approved travelers use faster airport security lanes for five years. Your path depends on whether you are new, renewing, or covered through family or service.

Check each option against your travel dates and card terms.

Compare provider fees for a new enrollment

According to Chase, new five-year enrollment costs $76.75 through IDEMIA, $79.95 through CLEAR, and $85 through Telos in its provider fee summary. The difference comes from the provider you select. Picking the lowest fee at signup lowers your cost for the full term.

The Transportation Security Administration notes that TSA and enrollment providers do not price-match. You cannot ask one provider to match a lower price. You must select the lowest-cost provider when you enroll.

Renew online for another five years

According to the Transportation Security Administration, IDEMIA online renewal costs $58.75 for five more years, while in-person renewal costs $66.75 in its renewal fees. Renewal costs less than a new enrollment. Online renewal costs the least.

Choose the online path when you can use it. It keeps the same five-year term for less money.

Check card statement credits

The Transportation Security Administration maintains a list of credit cards that provide a statement credit toward the fee regardless of provider used. According to United, Explorer, Quest and Club cards each give one credit up to $120 every four years after a Global Entry, PreCheck or NEXUS fee is charged to the card in its card benefit terms. You must charge the fee to that card to trigger the credit.

The four-year limit controls when you can claim again. Review your card terms before you pay.

Use military and family coverage

The Transportation Security Administration provides free PreCheck for uniformed service members using a DoD ID as the Known Traveler Number, a $25 discount on enrollment or renewal for military spouses, and free enrollment for Gold Star and survivor families. According to the Transportation Security Administration, children 17 and under can use the lane free with an enrolled parent or guardian in its family guidance. Ages 12 and under need no PreCheck indicator.

Ages 13-17 must share the reservation and show the indicator on the boarding pass.

  • Service member: enter DoD ID number as Known Traveler Number
  • Military spouse: claim $25 reduction on enrollment or renewal
  • Child 17 and under: use the lane free with an enrolled parent

Enroll at a nearby branch before travel

AAA offers enrollment through IDEMIA at participating branches, priced at $76.75 for five years. A nearby branch can reduce driving time during a busy season. Participation varies by branch.

The Transportation Security Administration FAQ notes that providers do not price-match, so travelers save by choosing the lowest-cost provider and renewing online. Use a participating AAA branch if one is near you.
