How to Get a Price Adjustment After Black Friday Ends

Keep receipts and track store prices after Black Friday to claim an eligible holiday price adjustment.

To get a price adjustment after Black Friday ends, contact the store that sold the item and ask for the difference if its own price dropped. A price adjustment is a partial refund for the amount the price fell after you paid. Eligibility depends on the retailer, the purchase date, and proof of purchase.

Some stores allow a holiday adjustment, while others require a return and rebuy.

What Target allows for holiday purchases

Target shoppers who bought in-store or online starting November 1, 2026 can request a price match if Target lowers its own price on or before December 24, 2026. Proof of purchase is required. Target Help describes this holiday window in Target's holiday price-match policy.

For store purchases, ask at checkout or Guest Services with the original receipt and the current Target.com, app, or ad price. For online orders, use chat with the order number and item information. Screenshots are not accepted.

That same Target Help policy limits outside-period adjustments to identical items bought that day or within the last 14 days. It matches only the same brand, size, weight, color, quantity, and model at Target.com or the buyer's local store. It excludes a different Target store, items tied to a promotional Target GiftCard, Registry-coupon purchases, clearance, closeout, liquidation, refurbished items, and typographical errors.

How Best Buy and Walmart differ

Best Buy Corporate says its holiday shoppers receive a Holiday Price Match Guarantee if Best Buy's own price drops during the season, paired with an extended holiday return window, with some exclusions applying. The details appear in Best Buy's holiday calendar announcement. Walmart Corporate AskWalmart states it provides no price matching for Walmart.com items that later decrease in price, competitor prices, Marketplace or third-party-seller prices, or Walmart store prices.

Those terms appear in Walmart's price-match policy page. That split matters for planning. Target and Best Buy describe a holiday own-price adjustment path, while a Walmart online price drop alone does not create an adjustment right.

What about Amazon orders

Amazon Customer Service explains that its formal exception is the Pre-order Price Guarantee for not-yet-released qualifying items. Ordinary shipped Black Friday orders have no general post-purchase price-adjustment promise. Buyers must otherwise rebuy or return within the return window.

The distinction is stated in Amazon's pre-order price guarantee help page. Check the return deadline before reordering. If the lower price is still available, place the new order first when stock is low.

Then return the higher-priced item under the stated terms.

What proof should you save now

Save records before prices move again. Keep the product description, price, online receipt, order number, return and refund terms, shipping terms, and related emails. An adjustment or return-rebuy claim depends on proving what was paid and when.

Bring the original receipt for a store request, or the order number and item information for a chat request. Keep the receipt or transcript that shows the adjusted amount.

  • Save the receipt or order confirmation with date and total.
  • Save the product page showing item details and price.
  • Save return, refund, and shipping terms.
  • Save emails and chat transcripts about the order.
