How to Enter Product Giveaways in Lexington, Kentucky Without Scams

A Lexington-focused checklist helps you verify entry routes, spot payment traps, and follow real claim deadlines.
To enter product giveaways in Lexington, use only a sponsor's independently located website or app, read the rules, and never pay to enter or claim a prize. Treat an unexpected win or request for sensitive financial information as a warning. A sweepstakes is a free, chance-based promotion, so entering does not mean you will receive a product.
App offers and loyalty rewards work differently and may have account, transaction, location, and redemption requirements.

Verify the entry route before sharing details
Do not rely on the link or phone number in a prize message. A message can name a real Lexington business or national brand without coming from that company. Find the sponsor's website, app, or contact information independently.
Check the written terms for: If the promotion does not appear through an independently located sponsor channel, stop before submitting information. A familiar logo, local area code, or recognizable company name does not verify the sender.

What warning signs should stop you?
Lexington Police identifies urgency, surprise wins, and demands for wire transfers, payment apps, gift cards, cash, or cryptocurrency as warning signs. Its guidance recommends slowing down and independently checking the business, website, policies, and contact details. The FTC says legitimate sweepstakes are free and chance-based.
Reject a prize claim that requires payment, a purchase to improve your odds, or bank-card or Social Security information. "No purchase necessary" means buying something cannot be required for entry. It does not promise a product, eliminate eligibility rules, or prevent a promoter from collecting contact information.
App offers and rewards have different rules
Chick-fil-A's current app-giveaway rules require users to claim an offer in the app during its displayed claim period. Redemption must occur at a participating restaurant during the displayed redemption period, subject to availability, and the offer has no cash value. These rules do not establish that a particular offer is active in Lexington today.
Starbucks Rewards provides a qualifying birthday beverage or food item only at participating stores. Its current Rewards terms require joining at least seven days before the birthday, adding a birthday to the account, and completing a Star-earning transaction before that birthday each year. The Starbucks benefit is a conditional membership reward, not a chance-based sweepstakes.
Check the account and participating Lexington location before making a trip.
Consider the privacy tradeoff
A legitimate promotion can still have a privacy cost. The FTC warns that promoters may sell entrant information, potentially leading to targeted advertising, promotional mail, telemarketing calls, and spam. Read the privacy language alongside the entry rules.
Decide whether the prize opportunity justifies the requested information, and consider using a separate email address to keep promotional messages away from important personal mail.
Report a suspicious prize message
The FTC's prize and sweepstakes guidance directs consumers to report suspected prize schemes through ReportFraud.gov. Do not send money or continue communicating while waiting for a response. The Lexington Police financial-crimes guidance directs Kentuckians to the Kentucky Attorney General's consumer-complaint process.
