How to Dispute a Missing Black Friday Cashback Payment

Learn what records to save, when to contact your card company, and how to escalate a missing holiday reward.
To dispute a missing Black Friday cashback payment, contact your cash-back provider first with your order details, then pursue your card company if the reward was a card-linked credit. A cashback payment is money paid back to you after a qualifying purchase. Holiday volume can delay posting, and some orders do not qualify.
Save your confirmation email, receipt, and account screenshots before you write or call. Clear records make each next step faster.

Is the payment really missing?
Check your account status before you dispute. Pending rewards often take time to move to an available balance. Wait until the stated posting window passes.
Look at the purchase details too. Check the date, total, payment method, and whether the item was canceled, returned, or changed. If anything changed after checkout, note that change for your message.
What should you gather first?
Collect the facts a reviewer will need. Keep the list short and exact. Keep copies in one place.
Use the same order number and dates in every message. Consistent details reduce back-and-forth.
- order number, store name, order date, and amount paid
- proof of purchase, such as a receipt or confirmation email
- screenshots showing your tracking, click path, or missing reward
- dates of prior messages and any case numbers
When should you contact your card company?
If the missing reward was a credit-card rewards credit or related billing error, act quickly. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau says consumers should call the card company immediately and also send a written billing-error notice no later than 60 days after the statement showing the error first appeared, as explained in the CFPB guidance on disputing a credit card billing error. Send the written notice to the billing-error address on your statement.
Include your name, account number, the dollar amount, and why you believe there is an error. Keep proof of mailing and a copy of the letter.
How do you escalate an unresolved case?
If the company does not resolve the issue, you can file a complaint with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau says it forwards the complaint to the company for response, with companies generally responding within 15 days, according to the CFPB complaint process. You can also report deceptive practices to the Federal Trade Commission.
The Federal Trade Commission accepts those reports at the FTC fraud reporting site. Save your complaint number and attach it to your personal records.
