How to Avoid Overpaying for Cyber Monday Extended Warranties

See how to compare free coverage, retail plan payouts, and card benefits before Cyber Monday checkout.
Skip a Cyber Monday warranty upsell unless it adds coverage beyond the free manufacturer warranty. Compare covered repairs, time limits, and price before you pay extra. A separately purchased plan is an optional service contract, not a warranty.
The Federal Trade Commission explains this distinction in Federal Trade Commission consumer advice because the contract is bought separately.

What does free coverage already include?
Pull up the included manufacturer warranty before checkout. Note the end date, covered parts, and how to file a claim. If the retailer plan only repeats that free period, walk away.
Use these questions to compare. Keep screenshots of product page terms and checkout price. You need them to compare plans side by side.

How much value does the price buy?
Lowe's reported $430 million in protection-plan revenue against $182 million in claims for nine months ending Oct. 31, 2025, in Lowe's quarterly filing. That is about 42 cents paid in claims per dollar collected.
The difference does not go to repairs. For many shoppers, saving the plan price for future repairs costs less.
Can card coverage replace a retailer plan?
Chase notes Sapphire Extended Warranty Protection adds one extra year to eligible coverage in Chase warranty education. It applies to U.S. manufacturer or store warranties of three years or less.
Pay with the eligible card and keep the receipt and warranty terms. Check the card terms first for product exclusions and claim deadlines.
Which warning signs mean walk away?
The Federal Trade Commission sent $9.6 million to 168,179 consumers who bought certain vehicle service contracts and had claims denied, according to Federal Trade Commission refund announcement. Denied claims show why exclusions matter. Pause when a Cyber Monday offer hides these details.
Read them before you pay. Ask for the contract by email and find the exclusion section. Skip plans that will not put coverage in writing.
