Holiday Giveaway Entry Limits: How Many Is Too Many?

Learn typical holiday entry caps, what voids extra entries, and daily checks that keep you eligible.

Too many is any entry past the number stated in the sponsor rules. An entry limit is the maximum number of times one person or email may enter. Holiday programs set different caps.

Reading that number before you enter keeps each entry valid and counted.

What counts as an extra entry?

An extra entry is any submission above the stated cap. A daily cap resets the next calendar day. A promotion-period cap does not reset until the program ends.

Hy-Vee set one entry per person per day during Nov. 18-Dec. 15, 2025, according to Hy-Vee in the Hy-Vee rules notice.

A second entry by the same person on the same day was too many under that structure.

Why do holiday caps differ?

Sponsors balance prize pools, entry volume, and program length. A short program may allow only one entry in total. A multi-week program may invite a return each day.

HGTV allowed two entries per day, one per site, for its Dec. 16, 2025-Feb. 13, 2026 giveaway, according to HGTV in the HGTV Dream Home FAQ.

Each person and email was still limited to one entry per site per day.

Do free entries ever require payment?

Legitimate U.S. sweepstakes are free and decided by chance. A chance to win is not an assured reward.

No purchase is needed to enter when rules state no purchase necessary. The Federal Trade Commission warns it is a scam if you must pay to enter, to collect, or to increase odds, according to the Federal Trade Commission in Federal Trade Commission consumer advice. Treat any payment request as a stop sign and skip that promotion.

How do you stay within the limit?

Write down the cap, the end date, and which email you used. Enter once, then wait for the reset if daily entries return. This prevents accidental duplicates across phone and computer.

U.S. prize winnings count as taxable income, including cash plus fair market value of cars and trips. Payers report prizes of at least $600 on Form 1099-MISC, according to the Internal Revenue Service in Internal Revenue Service tax guidance.

Save the end date and the $600 reporting threshold with your daily reminder.

  • Check the cap: one per day or one per promotion
  • Use one person and one email for each entry
  • Note dates and stop at the end date
  • Keep payment out of entry and collection
