Hanukkah Shipping Deadlines: When to Order Gifts

Ship first-night Hanukkah gifts by early December and use faster services for later nights.

For Hanukkah 2026, plan for gifts to arrive by Friday, Dec. 4 for the first night. That means order and ship in late November to early December for the first candles, and save mid-December services for later nights.

Hanukkah, the eight-night Jewish holiday, runs from sundown Dec. 4 to nightfall Dec. 12 in 2026.

Hebcal lists the observance as 25 Kislev to 2 Tevet 5787 on its 2026 holiday page.

Why the first night sets your deadline

Christmas shipping cutoffs cluster around Dec. 17-19. Those dates fall after Hanukkah begins, so they work for Dec.

25 but not for the first candles. First-night gifts need 2-5 day ground or 1-3 day priority time before Dec. 4.

Later nights allow more room, with arrivals spread across the Dec. 4-12 window.

When should Lower-48 USPS packages go out?

The U.S. Postal Service advises Lower-48 customers to send USPS Ground Advantage by Dec. 17 and First-Class Mail by Dec.

17 for expected delivery before Dec. 25. The same release notes expected delivery, not a promise, and earlier November dates for Alaska, Hawaii, territories, and military mail in its September holiday mailing release.

The U.S. Postal Service advises Lower-48 customers to send Priority Mail by Dec. 18 and Priority Mail Express by Dec.

19 for expected delivery before Dec. 25, as shown on its holiday shipping dates page. For Hanukkah, count back from the night you want.

A Dec. 4 arrival means mail Priority Mail in early December, not Dec. 18.

What are the latest FedEx options for Dec. 24 arrival?

FedEx lists last U.S. domestic ship days for scheduled arrival by Dec. 24 as Dec.

15 for Ground Economy, Dec. 21 for Express Saver, Dec. 22 for 2Day, Dec.

23 for overnight services, and Dec. 24 for SameDay, in its 2026 peak deadlines PDF. Those dates help for the middle and last nights of Hanukkah.

For the first night, choose the faster services in late November or the first days of December. Even overnight timing slips during peak volume. Build in one extra day when the gift must arrive for a set candle-lighting.

How to spread gifts across eight nights

Send one early box for the first two or three nights. Then use faster services for refill gifts timed to later nights. Check the full carrier table when the address is outside the Lower 48.

Those routes start earlier, often in November.

  • Mail distant and military gifts first, in November.
  • Ship Lower-48 ground gifts by early December for Dec. 4.
  • Use priority or express for Dec. 8-12 arrivals.
  • Keep tracking numbers and receipts until each night passes.
