Hallmark Channel Free Preview Weekends: How They Work
See how provider dates, eligible base plans, and automatic shutoff shape each Hallmark preview window.
A Hallmark Channel free preview weekend is a temporary unlock turned on by your pay-TV provider. You watch with an active qualifying base subscription, and access ends when the dates end. Hallmark does not offer this access directly.
Each provider sets its own dates, eligible plans, and included channels.

Who turns on the access?
The provider controls the switch, not Hallmark. That means availability varies by company, package, and weekend. In one past window, Sling said it automatically included both Hallmark Channel and Hallmark Movies Now for paid Sling Orange, Blue, Orange+Blue, Latino and International subscribers from July 8-10, as described in Sling's July 2022 preview page.
You did not need a separate Hallmark subscription during those dates. The same rule applied in reverse. If your base plan did not qualify, or you did not subscribe through that provider, that preview did not apply to you.
When do previews tend to appear?
Providers often schedule previews around Hallmark programming events. Two recurring tie-ins are Christmas in July and Countdown to Christmas. Sling ran a Hallmark Channel preview July 7-10, with the new movie A Royal Christmas Crush premiering July 8 at 8 p.m.
ET, according to Sling's Christmas in July preview page. The timing let viewers sample the stunt without changing plans. A longer Sling window ran Oct.
28-Nov. 11 during Countdown to Christmas. It included the live Hallmark Channel plus on-demand movies, with seven new premieres including A Cozy Christmas Inn, Ghosts of Christmas Always and Lights, Camera, Christmas!.
How do you watch during the window?
You use your normal provider app and guide. Sling pointed subscribers to the live channel listing and the On Demand tab during its July 2022 window. DIRECTV packages Hallmark channels differently.
Hallmark Family appears on Ch. 564 and Hallmark Mystery on Ch. 565 inside its Movies Extra Pack, and a Jan.
28-Feb. 3 free preview unlocked channels 564-573, according to the DIRECTV Insider preview notice. Channel numbers and pack names matter because the preview may cover a group of channels.
- Check the provider's dates before you look for the channel.
- Confirm your base subscription is active and eligible.
- Open the regular guide or on-demand section during the window.
What happens when the preview ends?
Access stops automatically when the dates pass. It does not continue unless you already pay for the package that includes Hallmark year-round. Each preview is date-bound and provider-specific.
Sling said continued Hallmark Channel access after its July window required adding the $6 Lifestyle Extra package.
