Portland residents have several verified ways to get free food or grocery help in 2026, but the current list is mostly assistance programs—not local prize drawings. The two reviewed Safeway promotions do not provide an open, Portland-specific chance to win groceries: one excludes Oregon residents, and the other has ended. Here, "grocery giveaways" includes no-cost food, grocery benefits, and sweepstakes prizes.

Which grocery drawings can Portland residents enter?
Safeway's Shop and Score sweepstakes runs from August 5, 2026, through January 5, 2027. However, Safeway's rules limit entry to Washington residents, so Portland residents cannot enter based on Oregon residency. Oregon State and Safeway's Run Home Groceries promotion was open nationwide to adults.
It awarded $50 Safeway cards for OSU home-game home runs, but entry closed May 17, 2026. That promotion is expired and was not specific to Portland winners.
Where can Portland households get free groceries?
The Oregon Food Bank Food Finder lists Portland-area food pantries, meals, produce distributions, and other programs. Qualifications are self-declared, and participating locations should not require additional documentation. Available food and operating hours vary by site.
Sunshine Division also operates appointment-only free food markets at 12436 SE Stark Street and 2121 NW Front Avenue. Eligible households may visit up to 16 times annually and must meet at least one program criterion. A household will not be turned away solely for lacking photo identification.
What food help is available for children?
Oregon Summer EBT provides one $120 grocery payment for each eligible school-aged child. Benefits began June 5, 2026, and families not receiving them automatically can apply through September 1. Eligibility pathways include SNAP, TANF, Oregon Health Plan coverage, foster care, or qualifying school-meal status.
Families should check their child's eligibility instead of assuming school enrollment alone is enough. Portland Parks' Free Lunch + Play offers free lunches to people 18 and younger from June 22 through August 21, except July 3. These are on-site meals, not take-home groceries.
Each child must attend and may receive one meal.
How can SNAP users stretch grocery funds?
Oregon SNAP provides monthly grocery assistance rather than a prize or giveaway. Oregon residents must meet income and citizenship or eligible-noncitizen requirements. For March 2026 through February 2027, gross monthly income guidance is $2,660 for one person and $5,500 for four people.
These figures are screening guidance, not a promise of eligibility. SNAP and Summer EBT users can receive a dollar-for-dollar Double Up Food Bucks produce match of up to $20. Portland Farmers Market confirms the match at PSU, Shemanski Park, King, Kenton, and Lents, subject to each market's schedule.
