Grocery Giveaways in Albuquerque, NM: Updated 2026 List for Local Winners

Albuquerque does not have one documented 2026 grocery-giveaway list naming local winners. Instead, the City of Albuquerque food-help page points residents toward food assistance, including grocery distributions and produce programs. These resources are not sweepstakes prizes.
They provide free food or stretch eligible shoppers' grocery benefits, subject to schedules, identification rules, supply, and funding.
Weekly grocery distributions
La Plazita Institute gives out free grocery-and-produce bags every Friday from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. Distribution is first come, first served, so the La Plazita Institute schedule makes arriving early especially important. The Storehouse generally serves the public Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday from 9:00 a.m.
to noon. Its pantry is at 106 Broadway Blvd. SE, and first-time visitors must complete paperwork.
The Storehouse aims to provide each household with a full cart. However, donations determine what is available, which may include packed shelf-stable food, meat, dairy, and produce—not specific requested groceries.
A monthly pantry and changing distribution sites
Rio Grande Food Project provides a free week's groceries once per household every 30 days. Distribution runs Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at 600 Coors Blvd.
NW. Adults should bring photo identification. Guardians collecting food for minors should also bring guardianship documentation.

Food pantries for Albuquerque students
Currently enrolled CNM students taking at least one credit hour may receive fresh and nonperishable food weekly. Students must register through PantrySoft, bring a CNM ID, and visit during academic-term pantry hours. Currently enrolled UNM students can choose free groceries at the Lobo Food Pantry in Student Union Building Room 1093.
It operates Monday through Thursday from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. UNM requires university identification and limits each student to one basket or 10 pounds per day.
These campus programs do not extend to residents who are not currently enrolled.
SNAP produce incentives in 2026
SNAP, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, can also help eligible shoppers obtain more locally grown produce. Double Up Food Bucks and limited-time Bonus Bucks are available at participating Albuquerque markets, including Rail Yards and South Valley. According to Double Up Food Bucks New Mexico, Bonus Bucks expire August 31, 2026, or sooner if funding runs out.
SNAP shoppers should confirm participation and remaining funds before planning a market visit.
What to check before leaving home
Food availability, visitor rules, and temporary schedules can differ among programs. Before traveling: Food is Free Albuquerque is no longer a current option. The nonprofit announced that it shut down in April 2026 after 10 years, so residents should use an active pantry or Food Finder listing instead.
