Free Trial Billed Through Roku: How to Find the Account That Owns It

Match a mystery Roku trial charge to the right household account, then shut off auto-renew before the first paid billing date.

To find the account behind a free trial billed through Roku, go to the Roku device you use. Open Settings > System > About, which shows the email for that device's Roku account. Then sign in at my.roku.com with that email to see every subscription and purchase billed to that account.

A Roku account is the login that links your streaming devices to a payment method, and one household can have more than one. The steps below cover how to confirm the charge is really from Roku, where to look when the trial isn't on the first account you check, and how to stop the trial before it renews. They also cover what cancelling does and doesn't do, and where to go when no account you can reach shows the charge.

Verification note: Program terms and availability can change. This page was checked against linked sources on September 17, 2026.

Is the Charge Actually From Roku?

Start with your bank or card statement. Roku's support page on unrecognized charges says charges billed through Roku show up as "Roku," "Roku for ___," or "The Roku Channel." Roku says a charge that doesn't mention Roku did not come from Roku. In that case the streaming service billed you directly.

That tells you where to search. If the statement just names a streaming service, look for an account with that service, not in Roku. If it says "Roku for" plus a service name, the trial started through a Roku account.

A $1.00 charge is a separate case. Roku says it is a temporary hold to check that a card is valid, not a subscription. You don't need to find a trial behind it.

Find the Email Linked to Each Device

Every Roku device is linked to one Roku account. To see which one, open Settings > System > About on the device. The screen shows the email address for that account.

Do this on every Roku device in your home, including TVs with Roku built in, and write down each email. Two devices can show different emails, and that is often why a trial seems to belong to nobody.

  • Open Settings on the Roku device
  • Choose System, then About
  • Note the email address shown
  • Repeat on each Roku device or Roku TV in the home

Check the Purchase History at my.roku.com

Sign in at my.roku.com with an email you found on a device. Roku says this page lists every subscription and purchase billed through that account. To see only subscriptions, go to my.roku.com/subscriptions.

If the trial isn't there, don't assume the charge is wrong yet. Roku says to check other Roku devices or accounts, since someone in your home may have started the subscription on a different Roku account with a different email. Sign in with each email on your list in turn.

Common examples include a second TV set up by a family member, an older device that still uses a former email, or a roommate's Roku account on a shared TV.

Stop the Trial Before It Renews

Once you find the account, act before the trial ends. Roku's guide to managing subscriptions says free trials for streaming apps become paid subscriptions that renew automatically. To avoid the charge, turn off auto-renew on or before the last day of the trial.

You can do this on the device or on the web. At my.roku.com/subscriptions: If you cancel with time left in the billing period, Roku says you can keep using the subscription until that period ends. So you don't lose anything by cancelling early in the trial.

  • Pick the subscription under Active subscriptions
  • Select Manage subscription
  • Select Turn off auto-renew

What If You Were Already Charged?

Turning off auto-renew stops future charges. It does not refund a charge that already went through. Roku says this in the same subscription guide.

For money already charged, see Roku's content and subscription refund policy. If no Roku account you can sign in to shows the charge, contact Roku through its support contact page, which handles account and payment questions. Have the statement line, the charge date, and the amount ready.

Can one household have more than one Roku account?

Do I have to cancel on the same device where the trial started?

No. Roku says you can turn off auto-renew on the device or at my.roku.com/subscriptions.
