Free Toy Samples & Demo Events During the Holiday Season
Plan store visits for toy demos, mini builds, free Santa photos and toy requests before supplies run out.
Yes, free toy samples and demo events are available this holiday season at major toy and outdoor retailers. Toy sample events are hands-on store sessions where kids try featured toys, build mini sets, or make crafts and sometimes take home a small item. These options differ in what you get and what you must do.
Some offer a small take-home while supplies last. Others provide an activity, a photo, or help for families requesting holiday toys.

What happens at Target on November 7?
Target will host Holiday Kick Off With Toys on Nov. 7, from 12pm to 4pm at most stores. The session includes a LEGO Christmas Stocking demo, Puppertronic Pikachu and Mini Brands try-outs, plus a free Holiday Bear keychain.
According to Target, details are listed on Target's Holiday Kick Off event page. The keychain is limited to one per guest while supplies last. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
Arrival time affects availability. Go earlier in the window for a better chance at the keychain. Check with your local store about participation before you visit.
How do LEGO Make & Take builds work?
LEGO stores run year-round Make & Take events. Visitors build a themed mini set in the store and take it home. Examples include Star Wars builds for May the 4th and Halloween creations.
According to the LEGO Group, the formats are described in LEGO's store events guide. These builds are small, seasonal, and tied to specific dates. Themes and quantities vary by store.
A session can fill or run out of pieces. Ask your local LEGO store about dates, times, and age guidance. Plan for a short hands-on visit rather than a full toy giveaway.
Where can families request free holiday toys?
Marine Toys for Tots distributes free Christmas toys through local campaigns. Families must use Find Your Local Campaign and Request a Toy. In 2025, the program delivered 24 million toys to nearly 11 million children.
According to the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, the request process is explained on the Toys for Tots homepage. This is a need-based distribution, not a demo or sample table. Campaign rules, deadlines, and pickup steps vary by community.
Availability depends on local donations and registration. Use the campaign finder early to see local instructions. Follow the listed request steps and bring required documents to pickup.
What is free at Santa's Wonderland?
Bass Pro Shops and Cabela's Santa's Wonderland runs Nov. 2 through Christmas Eve. It offers free studio-quality Santa photos, festive crafts, and holiday giveaways.
Online reservations are encouraged. According to Bass Pro Shops, the schedule is described in Bass Pro's Wonderland announcement. The photo is the main take-home, not a toy sample.
Crafts and giveaways vary by store and day. Reservations can reduce waiting during busy evenings and weekends. Reserve a time slot online where available.
Arrive early and check store details for craft times and photo packages.
