See which Petco tastings need a store check, how app and rewards savings work, and safe treat portions for pets.
Free pet treat samples around Thanksgiving are at Petco's November tasting events, with added savings from Purina and PetSmart rewards. Petco lists a tasting on November 14 and Petsgiving sampling on November 21-22, while Purina offers an app coupon and PetSmart offers bonus points. November in-store tastings to check first
According to Petco, the November 14 event is a Blue Buffalo food tasting from 2-4pm. It includes free samples for dogs and cats. Details are listed on Petco's store-events page.
According to a Petco announcement, the November 21-22 Petsgiving events will be held at select stores nationwide. They feature fresh-frozen nutrition, freeze-dried raw bites and meal toppers from Hill's, Ollie and Badlands Ranch, plus recipe cards. See the Petco announcement for the event description.
How to confirm your store is taking part?

Confirm the time, participation and availability for that date.
- Choose your local store on the events page
- Check the listed time for November 14 or November 21-22
- Confirm participation and sample availability before visiting
App and rewards savings that lower treat costs
According to Purina, shoppers can get a coupon for free treats worth up to $4.00 after downloading and signing up for the free myPurina app. Limits apply. Details are on the myPurina app page.
According to PetSmart, its free Treats Rewards membership provides 1,000 limited-time bonus points equal to $2 savings. Members also get one-time 2x points on pet treats during the pet's birthday or Gotcha Day month. Terms are explained in the PetSmart Learning Center article.
How to keep holiday treats safe
ASPCA Poison Control recommends keeping pets on their normal diet for Thanksgiving. If sharing meat, give only small bites of boneless fully cooked turkey. Raw turkey may contain salmonella and poultry bones are choking hazards.
FDA's Center for Veterinary Medicine warns not to let a dog eat a whole stocking of pet treats at once. Unchewed treats are hard to digest and can lodge in the trachea or gastrointestinal tract.
