Free Donut Days: How to Check the Offer Before Making a Trip

Check dates, purchase rules, reward status, expiration, and store participation before taking a special donut trip.

Check the sponsor's current offer page, your rewards account, the expiration date, and store participation before making a donut run. As of September 9, 2026, the checked sources do not document a nationwide free donut day happening now. A past promotion, birthday reward, or membership perk may still appear in search results after its terms change.

The word "free" also may hide a purchase, enrollment, points, or location requirement.

Verification note: Program terms and availability can change. This page was checked against linked sources on September 09, 2026.

Is a free donut day active now?

Start with the promotion date. According to 7‑Eleven's May 28 announcement, its latest National Donut Day promotion offered 50-cent glazed donuts on June 5, 2026. It was neither an ongoing deal nor a free donut offer.

This distinction matters because an accurate old announcement does not establish a current promotion. Look for a specific redemption date and confirm that it includes today before planning a trip. If a post says only "National Donut Day" without a year, treat it as incomplete.

The celebration's name does not prove that every chain participates or that each participating store gives away the same item.

What does "free" require?

Read the action attached to the benefit. A donut may cost nothing at redemption but still require joining a program, buying another item, earning points, or visiting during a birthday-reward window. Krispy Kreme currently advertises a free doughnut with a new Rewards member's next purchase.

As described on the Krispy Kreme Rewards page, this is an enrollment-and-purchase offer, not a no-purchase giveaway. Shipley Rewards offers two free glazed donuts for joining. Its program also lists one free glazed or iced birthday donut, five points per $1 spent, and a half-dozen glazed reward at 350 points, according to the Shipley Rewards page.

Check which benefit appears in your live account rather than assuming every listed reward is immediately available.

Will the store accept the reward?

A chain-wide rewards program does not necessarily mean every location participates. Before leaving, choose the intended store in the app or ordering system and check whether the reward can be applied there. Krispy Kreme's terms say rewards work only at participating stores.

In person, members must provide their account barcode or phone number. For an online order, they must sign in, apply the reward, and add the qualifying item separately. Redeemed rewards ordinarily expire 30 days after appearing in the account, according to the Krispy Kreme Rewards terms.

An item sitting in the cart without the reward applied may still ring up at its regular price. Review the subtotal before submitting an online order or ask the cashier to confirm the reward before payment.

Run this check before leaving

Use the live sponsor page or rewards account, not a screenshot or an undated social post. Verify the exact benefit shown to you: If the reward is missing, expired, or unavailable at the selected store, do not rely on an older announcement as proof. Save the trip until the qualifying offer appears in your account or on the sponsor's current page.

  • Confirm the promotion date includes today.
  • Check whether enrollment, a purchase, a birthday, or a point balance is required.
  • Read the item limit and eligible donut type.
  • Confirm that your selected store participates.
  • Open the barcode, coupon, or account reward before traveling.
