Free Christmas Light Maps: How Towns List Their Displays

Find free local light maps, check hours and live status, and submit your display before town deadlines.

Free Christmas light maps are public driving guides built from homes and businesses that owners submit. Towns collect an address, photo and short description, then post approved displays on a public map for driving tours. A Christmas light map means that town-posted list with locations and viewing times.

With early November deadlines near, check the town rules before you submit or drive.

How towns collect displays

The Town of Gilbert, Arizona, invites residents to submit a photo of a home or business display through its branded Gilbert 311 app to build a public Holiday Lights Map, according to the CivicPlus blog on Gilbert's program. The photo and entry feed a map meant for driving tours. The City of Fitchburg requires Holiday Lights Tour sign-ups to list a display address inside Fitchburg city limits, according to the City of Fitchburg sign-up form.

That city-limits rule decides who can join that tour.

What the public map shows

Fitchburg warns that the address and description may appear on the public tour map. Readers should write the description for strangers and expect the location to be public. Burlington adds selected homes to its Festival of Lights digital map, shows only display name and street publicly, and asks for lights on from 6-11 p.m.

Nov. 15-Dec. 31, 2026, with applications closing Nov.

15, 2026, according to the Burlington Festival of Lights application page. That limited display still lets drivers find the street without posting a house number.

Deadlines that control listings

The City of Mitcham runs an interactive Christmas Lights Trail Map and accepts resident entries by online form or email to [email protected], with 2026 entries due by midnight Nov. 24, 2026, according to the City of Mitcham trail page. Email gives residents a second path if the form fails.

Mitcham and Burlington both tie maps to fixed windows. A display that misses the cutoff waits for next year, and a display that skips scheduled hours can disappoint drivers.

How to avoid a wasted drive

Listings depend on owner submission, deadlines and timers. A map entry does not keep lights on during bad weather, power issues or family schedule changes. Confirm the route before you leave:

  • Check the town map page for dates, hours and live status notes.
  • Plan for the stated on-time, such as evening hours only.
  • Have a backup cluster nearby in case one house is dark.
