Free Airport Charging Stations: Where to Find Them

Find phone power past security at gates, holdrooms and food courts before your battery runs low.
Free airport charging stations are shared outlets and power poles for phones and laptops. Look for them in seating areas past security, in gate holdrooms and along concourses. Device charging is separate from electric-car charging.
Most phone power sits inside the terminal for ticketed passengers, while car plugs sit in parking areas and involve parking fees.

Where are phone chargers in international terminals?
Changi Airport Group provides free charging points across all four terminals, including seating past security, every gate holdroom and business lounges. See the charging points directory for locations. Heathrow Airport provides free Power Pole stations in all terminals, placed both before and after security for phones and laptops.
See the phone and laptop charging page for details. Start with gate seating and holdrooms. Then check lounge waiting areas if your terminal has them.
What will you find in United States concourses?
The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority places free charging stations throughout each concourse at gate areas and in the terminal outside the International Arrivals doorway. Restaurants, bars and the Concourse B food court near Gate B73 also have them. See the charging stations guide for details.
Gate areas work well because seats face the departure screens. Food courts help when gate seats are full. Most device charging sits past security.
Bring a boarding pass and enter early if you need time to charge.
Does free include electric cars?
San Jose Mineta International Airport offers free electric-vehicle stations in Hourly Lot 5 and the Terminal A Garage, but parking payment still applies. See the electric vehicle charging stations page for details. Phone poles and car plugs are different systems.
Do not drive to the terminal expecting free parking with charging. Check lot signs and hourly rates before plugging in. Move the car when charging ends if the lot sets time limits.
How can you plug in faster?
Carry your own cable and wall adapter. Many stations provide outlets but not cables for every phone type. Head to your assigned gate holdroom first, then try the nearest food-court wall if those seats are taken.
- Sit near gate holdroom walls and pillars where outlets cluster
- Check food-court perimeter seating when gates are crowded
- Ask staff at restaurants and bars which counter seats have power
- Charge before boarding, not during short connections
