Free Cultural Visits Through Boston Family Days
Boston Family Days gives eligible Boston students and up to two guests free access to 23 cultural institutions. Visits are available on the first and second Sunday of each month through December 2026, according to the City of Boston's eligibility and registration page. Eligible students must be full-time Boston residents enrolled in Boston Pre-K or grades K–12.
The program includes BPS, charter, METCO, homeschool, parochial, and qualifying private-school students. BPS families are enrolled automatically. Families in the other eligible school categories must register before relying on the benefit.
When Selection Depends on Chance
Regular Boston Family Days admission is a recurring benefit, not a prize drawing. Its free performance tickets work differently: families rank their choices, and the program selects recipients by lottery. Selected families have only 24 hours to claim performance tickets, as the City's Boston Family Days guidance explains.
Ranking a performance does not ensure tickets. The Aug. 21 Charlestown event also advertises a soccer-themed raffle.
A notice that mentions giveaways or a raffle does not establish that every attendee will receive an item.
August Boston After Dark Giveaways
Boston After Dark is a free Friday-night summer series for teens ages 14–18. The City of Boston program page says every event includes free food, merchandise giveaways, and a live DJ. Upcoming dates on the verified schedule include: The three Aug.
21 choices occur on the same date, so families should select the most practical location. These events serve teens rather than unrestricted family groups.
- Aug. 14, 7–9 p.m.: East Boston YMCA, with giveaways, food, tattoos, portraits, and ice cream.
- Aug. 21: BCYF Charlestown, BCYF Gallivan in Mattapan, and Parkway YMCA in West Roxbury, each listing free food and giveaways. Charlestown also lists a soccer-themed raffle.
- Aug. 28, 5–8 p.m.: BCYF Curley in South Boston, featuring a beach party, artists, food, and giveaways.
A Separate Youth Town Hall Option
The Mayor's Youth Council Summer Town Hall runs Aug. 13, 2026, from 3–5 p.m. at BCYF Tobin.
Admission is free, and the event offers food and multiple giveaways, according to the City's Mission Hill event notice. This option has a different eligibility rule from Boston After Dark. Attendees must be ages 14–19 and must live, work, or attend school in Boston.
For a recurring family outing, check Boston Family Days enrollment. For Friday entertainment and merchandise, teens ages 14–18 can choose Boston After Dark; the Aug. 13 town hall also accepts eligible 19-year-olds.
