The event includes a Taharka Bros. ice-cream giveaway, crafts, and activities. An RSVP is requested.
The organization's final 2026 playground stop is Aug. 20 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Unity Park Playground & Splash Pad, 2 N.
Fulton Ave. Free ice cream and lemonade are planned, but lemonade is limited to the first 50 people. Families can find RSVP information through the Baltimore Family Alliance event listings.
Back-to-school giveaways
UEmpower of Maryland will hold a Back-to-School Giveaway on Aug. 20 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
at The Food Project, 424 S. Pulaski St. It is open to everyone and includes backpacks, school supplies, food, community resources, and family-support services.
Backpacks and supplies are available only while supplies last, according to the UEmpower event listing. Attendance therefore does not ensure that every family will receive those items. Arriving early may improve the chance of finding supplies still available.
Hit Me With Music Foundation has another free event on Aug. 22 from noon to 5 p.m. at 4025 Eastern Ave., Baltimore, MD 21224.
The Visit Baltimore listing says the cookout includes backpacks, school supplies, food, music, activities, and community resources.
Is the BRHP supply campaign a recipient event?
Baltimore Regional Housing Partnership is running a 2026 back-to-school supply campaign. Its page says the prior drive distributed more than 700 backpacks to more than 400 families across five regional sites. However, the BRHP campaign page does not publish 2026 recipient dates or state that every family is eligible.
Treat it as a supply campaign, not as a confirmed public giveaway location, unless BRHP posts additional recipient details.
How families can choose and prepare
The playground events suit families seeking evening activities and refreshments. The UEmpower and Hit Me With Music events focus more heavily on school supplies, food, and community resources. Before leaving:
- RSVP for Baltimore Family Alliance events through its event page.
- Arrive early when backpacks or supplies are listed as available only while supplies last.
- Note that the two Aug. 20 events have different locations and times: UEmpower ends at 4 p.m., while the Unity Park event begins at 5:30 p.m.
- Do not assume a donation campaign is also an open distribution event.
