DoorDash Gift Card vs Restaurant Gift Card: Which Works in the App?

Learn which gift card becomes DoorDash app credit, why restaurant cards differ, and what to check before ordering.
A DoorDash gift card works in the DoorDash app as DoorDash credit. A restaurant's own gift card generally should be used through that restaurant's stated ordering channel unless the restaurant expressly says DoorDash accepts it. The difference matters because a card with a restaurant's name on it may be useful for that restaurant, but it is not the same as credit for a DoorDash checkout.

The card that works in DoorDash
DoorDash documents that its own gift cards can be redeemed for eligible U.S. orders in the app or on doordash.com. That makes a DoorDash gift card the practical choice when the order will be placed through DoorDash.

How to redeem a DoorDash gift card
You need a valid DoorDash account before redeeming the code. In the app, enter the card's PIN through Account → Gift Card. DoorDash says a separate primary payment method is not needed when the gift-card balance covers the whole eligible order.

- Open your DoorDash account.
- Choose Gift Card.
- Enter the PIN from the DoorDash gift card.
- Check that the value appears as DoorDash credit.
Why restaurant gift cards are different
A restaurant gift card is issued for that restaurant, not automatically for every delivery marketplace where its food may appear. DoorDash's current redemption instructions document DoorDash gift-card codes, not restaurant-issued cards, so restaurant-card payment at DoorDash checkout is not verified by DoorDash. Don't confuse a restaurant e-gift card with DoorDash credit
DoorDash may sell select third-party restaurant e-gift cards in its Gift Card Store. That does not turn those cards into DoorDash order credit. DoorDash states that those third-party cards are issued by, and are solely the obligation of, the applicable restaurant or other third-party issuer.
