Does Hanukkah Shopping Qualify for Holiday Return Extensions?

Learn which Hanukkah purchase dates get extra return time and which electronics face earlier cutoffs.
Yes. Hanukkah shopping generally qualifies for the same extended holiday return windows as other December holiday gifts. Hanukkah, the eight-night Jewish festival of lights, fell fully inside major retailers' holiday purchase windows in 2025.
Chabad.org notes that Hanukkah 2025 began at nightfall December 14 and ended at nightfall December 22, as described in Chabad.org's calendar guide. That timing meant gifts bought early or close to the holiday still fell within October-through-December coverage.

Why the calendar works in your favor
Retail holiday windows start well before December. They are built around purchase date, not which holiday the gift celebrates. That structure helps Hanukkah shoppers.
A gift bought in October, November, or late December can receive extra return time if the retailer includes those dates. The key is the receipt date and product type. Keep the receipt and check the category rule before you buy.
What Amazon and Target allowed
About Amazon reports that most items bought November 1 to December 31, 2025 were returnable until January 31, 2026, explained in About Amazon's holiday update. Amazon offered free returns at more than 10,000 locations for the season. Apple products had a tighter Amazon cutoff.
Apple-branded items bought in that same period had to be returned by January 15, 2026. Target Help states that electronics and entertainment bought November 1 to December 24 received an extended window, explained in Target's return policy page. That group included Apple and Beats products and most Target Plus items.
For 2025, reporting on Target's plan put most electronics returnable through January 24, 2026, with Apple, Beats and mobile phones due by January 8.
What Walmart and Best Buy allowed
Walmart's extended policy made most items bought October 1 to December 31 returnable until January 31. That range covered Hanukkah gifts bought early in fall and last-minute gifts bought during the holiday. Best Buy's 2025 plan covered most gifts bought October 31 to December 31 through January 15, 2026.
Members of My Best Buy Plus and Total received extra time through January 31, 2026. Save the packing slip for online orders. For in-store gifts, ask for a gift receipt so the recipient can return without seeing the price.
Which items face earlier cutoffs
Extensions do not cover everything. Electronics, phones, and large appliances often have separate rules. Measure the return deadline from the purchase date and product category, not the night you give the gift.
When buying an Apple device, phone, or appliance, read that category line before checkout.
- Amazon shortened the window for Apple-branded products.
- Target shortened the window for Apple, Beats and mobile phones.
- Best Buy excluded carrier-contract phones, AppleCare+ plans and holiday decorations.
- Walmart excluded wireless phones and major appliances, while Apple excluded carrier-financed iPhones.
