How does interest-free Pay in 4 work?
Pay in 4 divides your total into four equal parts. You make the first payment at checkout, then pay the rest over about six weeks. That structure carries no finance charges under its own terms.
That no-interest term is stated in the U.S. Installment Agreement, which lists no finance charges and no interest payments for that agreement.
What happens if a payment is late?
On-time Pay in 4 users pay no account fees. A late fee may apply only after the grace period, usually 10 days past the due date. Afterpay details those limits in its payments help article.
It charges only one late fee per missed installment, and total late fees on an order never exceed 25% of the initial order value. Missing a payment also pauses your account. You cannot make further Afterpay purchases until the account is brought current, plus any late fee owed.
Are all Afterpay plans interest-free?
No. Standard Pay in 4 is different from longer-term Afterpay Monthly plans. Those finance-fee loans accrue simple interest and disclose an annual percentage rate.
Check which plan you selected before you confirm. If the checkout shows monthly payments over several months with a finance charge, it is not the interest-free Pay in 4 plan.
Could your card still add costs?
Yes. Even with zero Afterpay interest, your own card issuer may impose interest, fees, or lost rewards under that card's terms. A debit payment from available funds avoids credit-card interest.
Use these checks to keep the purchase free of extra charges:
- Confirm the plan says Pay in 4, not a monthly finance plan.
- Link a debit card or a balance you can repay in full.
- Turn on reminders and autopay for each of the four due dates.
- If a payment may fail, update the payment method before the grace period ends.
