Do Bonus Entries Improve Your Chances in a Giveaway?

Learn when bonus entries count, how entry pools affect the benefit, and which limits to check before taking extra steps.

Yes, bonus entries can improve your chances when they join the same random drawing as regular entries. They do not guarantee a win, and the size of the advantage depends on the final entry pool. A bonus entry is an additional chance awarded for completing an allowed action, such as sharing a promotion.

Before pursuing one, check how the rules count it, which drawing it enters, and whether a limit applies.

When Does a Bonus Entry Actually Help?

Each valid entry generally represents one chance in a random drawing. If you have one entry among 1,000 total entries, your chance is 1 in 1,000. If you add four valid bonus entries while the total pool becomes 1,004, your chance becomes 5 in 1,004.

That improvement matters only if regular and bonus entries enter the same pool with equal weight. Wild Zebra's promotion, which ended August 31, 2026, stated that activity-based and free-form bonus entries received equal weight and equal odds in its random drawing. This illustrates why the rules—not the word "bonus"—determine an entry's value.

Some promotions use entries in several drawings. Under Drumstick's 2026 rules, online, mail-in, and bonus entries count as "Entries" in both entry-period and overall random drawings, subject to the applicable limits.

How Much Do Extra Entries Improve Your Odds?

You usually cannot calculate the exact benefit before a giveaway closes. Your odds depend on how many eligible entries everyone submits, including other entrants' bonus entries. For example, increasing your entries from one to ten gives you ten times as many entries as you previously held.

It does not necessarily give you a 10% chance of winning. If the final pool contains 100,000 eligible entries, ten entries still represent only ten chances within that much larger pool. The current INSP Gold Rush rules allow up to 21 total entries per person and select one winner in a random drawing.

Those rules also state that the odds depend on the number of eligible entries received, so the precise improvement cannot be known beforehand.

Which Limits and Conditions Matter?

Entry caps prevent bonus-entry tasks from increasing your chances indefinitely. INSP's current rules allow bonus entries for sharing through Facebook and/or X after a valid daily entry, with no more than two bonus entries per day. Entries beyond the promotion's 21-entry-per-person maximum are void.

Rules may also impose separate daily, activity, household, or drawing-period limits. Completing an action twice may produce no additional value if the rules credit it only once. Before completing a bonus action, look for:

  • The maximum number of regular and bonus entries
  • Whether the action must follow a valid initial entry
  • Which drawing receives the bonus entry
  • Whether all entry methods receive equal weight
  • Whether duplicate or excess entries are void

Should You Complete Every Bonus Action?

Prioritize free, quick actions that the rules clearly say will produce valid entries. A sharing action may be worthwhile if you are comfortable posting it, while a lengthy survey or account connection may not justify a small and unknowable increase. Do not assume spending money produces better odds.

The Federal Trade Commission's sweepstakes guidance says legitimate sweepstakes are free and based on chance, and requiring payment or a purchase to improve the odds is illegal. Read the official rules before spending time on any bonus task. Confirm that the action earns an entry, note the applicable cap, and stop once you reach it; attempts beyond a stated maximum add no valid chances.
