December 31 Sweepstakes Deadlines: What Happens if You Miss One

Learn why a December 31 cutoff blocks late entries and how to guard last-day prize submissions.

If you miss a December 31 sweepstakes deadline, your entry does not count for that promotion. A sweepstakes, a prize drawing where winners are picked by chance, has a fixed entry period and late entries are not eligible. The Coca-Cola Company states its 2026 Holiday Social Sweepstakes runs from 10:00 a.m.

ET November 2, 2026 to 11:59 p.m. ET December 31, 2026 Coca-Cola's 2026 Holiday Social Sweepstakes rules. An entry sent January 1 falls outside that period.

Enter before the posted ET cutoff on December 31.

Does 11:59 p.m. really mean 11:59 p.m.?

Yes. The cutoff uses the time zone listed in the rules, often ET for national promotions. Your phone clock, email sent time, or postmark does not control.

Many rules use received-by language. That means the sponsor must have your entry by the cutoff, not merely have you click start before it. Protect a last-day entry with these steps:

  • Check the ET cutoff in the rules before December 31
  • Enter early in the day to allow for delays
  • Save any confirmation screen or number shown

Will a late entry move to the next drawing?

No. Strategic Vision states entries must be received by 11:59:59 p.m. ET December 31, 2026 for a January 27, 2027 drawing of eligible entries Strategic Vision's 2026 Annual Survey Sweepstakes rules.

A December entry received after that time is not in that pool. The drawing includes only eligible entries. A late entry therefore has no chance for that prize.

Watch for a new entry period rather than waiting on the closed one.

What second deadline can still cost you a prize?

Timely entry is only the first deadline. Strategic Vision states potential winners notified by mail must confirm eligibility by March 13, 2027, or the award is forfeited Strategic Vision's 2026 Annual Survey Sweepstakes rules. That confirmation step is common in year-end promotions.

Mail can arrive slowly in January and February. Open sponsor mail promptly, follow the stated return steps, and keep copies of what you send. A missed winner response ends the same way as a missed entry.

The prize goes to someone else or goes unawarded under the rules.

How do late-December messages trick you?

Fake winner notices spike around closed deadlines. The Federal Trade Commission warns that legitimate prizes are free and by chance, and demands to pay fees or taxes or share bank details to claim a prize signal a scam FTC guidance on fake prize, sweepstakes, and lottery scams. Treat pressure as a warning sign: Do not send money or bank details to collect a prize.

Check the sponsor's rules page directly instead.

  • A message claims you won after you missed the cutoff
  • It asks for payment, gift cards, or bank details to release funds
  • It tells you to act now and keep it secret
