Cyber Monday Shipping Delays: What to Expect This Year

Plan Cyber Monday orders around surcharges, Monday backlogs and cutoff dates to avoid late holiday gifts.
Expect heavy volume but mostly on-time Cyber Monday deliveries this year, with higher shipping costs and a short backup after Thanksgiving. Cyber Monday, the Monday after Thanksgiving centered on online deals, falls on Nov. 30 in 2026 and caps a five-day order surge.
Adobe forecasts U.S. online holiday sales of $275.1 billion for Nov. 1-Dec.
31, up 6.7% year over year, as reported by Adobe via Investing News Network in Adobe's holiday sales forecast. Cyber Week accounts for $47.5 billion of that total. Cyber Monday alone is expected to exceed $15 billion in one day.

Why does Monday get so backed up?
Thanksgiving creates a pause, then a rush. There is no regular FedEx, UPS or USPS pickup or delivery on Thanksgiving. That break concentrates weekend orders into Monday shipments.
The Via.Delivery 2026 guide puts about 54% of weekend orders into Monday shipments. Retail systems, warehouses and carrier pickups all restart at once. A label created Sunday night may not move until Monday evening.
How late were packages last year?
ShipMatrix data for Cyber Week 2025 showed carriers delivered 97.2% on time for USPS to 98.9% for UPS. That still means roughly 110-280 late parcels per 10,000 orders. During a record-volume week, hundreds of thousands of shoppers feel that small share.
That rate also has a limit. FreightWaves, citing ShipMatrix, noted the December result counted parcels delivered within one day after the promised date during Dec. 1-6.
Volume was about 30% higher that week. So a package a day late still counted as on time.
Why will delivery cost more?
Parcel networks face double the normal Q4 volume. Reuters, via AJOT, reports ground delivery pricing up 5.8% versus last year in Reuters reporting on holiday delivery prices. Express parcel pricing is forecast to jump 13.8% from Q4 2025.
Fuel adds pressure. UPS had a 29.5% fuel surcharge and FedEx had 29% when diesel averaged $6.28 per gallon on Oct. 19.
FedEx peak demand surcharges run Oct. 26, 2026-Jan. 17, 2027 and are higher than last year, as detailed by Supply Chain Dive in Supply Chain Dive's rundown of FedEx peak fees.
The added charge is $0.50-$0.80 per residential Ground and Home Delivery package in peak weeks.
What can you do to stay on schedule?
Treat Cyber Monday as the start of a longer shipping window. The U.S. Postal Service Newsroom last year recommended Dec.
17 for Ground Advantage, Dec. 18 for Priority Mail and Dec. 20 for Priority Mail Express for pre-Christmas delivery.
Ground orders placed Nov. 30 still face those mid-December cutoffs. Small choices reduce risk during the Monday rush:
- Order early in the day on Nov. 30 so the parcel enters Monday pickup.
- Pick a store pickup or locker option when speed matters.
- Save express shipping for gifts with firm arrival dates.
- Track the parcel and allow one extra day around Dec. 1-6.
