Christmas Tree Lot Discounts for Military Families

See which free-tree pickups and 10% store discounts fit your rank, ID and pickup window this season.
Military families can get free trees through Trees for Troops or a community lot gift, or put a store military discount toward a tree. Trees for Troops is a Christmas SPIRIT Foundation program that provides free farm-grown trees to members in all branches and their families. The Christmas SPIRIT Foundation says support comes from donations, sponsorships, grants and volunteers program page.
Base distributions vary by location, date and household rule, so check your installation notice before you go. When free trees run out, a qualifying store purchase may still lower what you pay.

How does Trees for Troops work?
Start with your installation notice, not a national signup. Pickup points and times differ, so the local announcement controls your trip. Bring proof of eligibility and confirm household rules before you load up.
If your base limits trees by rank or household, that local rule decides who takes one home.
What limits apply at base pickup?
Navy MWR Jacksonville lists strict limits for its Trees for Troops 2026 pickup activity page. It allows E1-E6 active-duty members or dependents, with one tree per household. Match your ID to that list before you go.
If you fall outside the listed group, plan on another option in this article.
- E1-E6 active-duty or dependent
- One per household
- Dec. 4, 1-4 pm, Patriots' Grove
Where can you request a community lot tree?
The Youth Center says its Los Alamitos lot gifts free trees to active military families who request online. Those requests are confirmed only as sponsorships and availability allow lot page. Submit the online request early and wait for confirmation.
Keep a backup plan in case sponsorships run out.
Can a store discount help with a tree?
The Home Depot offers active military, veterans and spouses 10% off eligible purchases, with savings capped at $400 per calendar year. Verification runs through the app or SheerID, and sale, appliance and installation exclusions apply, so verify tree eligibility before you buy store pages. Check eligibility in the app before you head to the lot.
Ask staff whether the specific tree SKU is eligible.
