Cheap Christmas Ham Deals: How To Find Them

Compare unit prices, coupon dates and storage limits to lock in low-cost holiday ham early.

Find cheap Christmas ham by comparing the price per pound or kilo in store circulars, then checking coupon, app, and eligibility terms before you shop. A half-leg ham is a bone-in portion cut from the leg and priced by weight, so unit price decides the real saving. Past United States discounts clustered around loyalty apps and military stores.

Current Australian prices are holding flat for a fourth Christmas. Your location and store access change which price you can use.

Why were past United States prices so low?

Lidl US said its 8-lb Dulano bone-in ham portion sold for $0.77 per lb with the MyLidl app from Dec. 10-24, 2025, anchoring a holiday meal for 12 for under $4 per person in the Lidl holiday meal announcement. The date and app requirement matter.

Shoppers without the app could not use that unit price. Defense Commissary Agency advertising listed Hormel, Smithfield and Hillshire holiday hams at $0.99 per lb in the Dec. 15-28 flyer, alongside discounted rib roasts.

That flyer served commissary patrons only. Civilians shopping regular supermarkets could not assume the same price.

What is holding at $8 per kilo in Australia?

Woolworths said its Australian Half Leg Ham held at $8.00 per kg from Oct. 22, 2026, matching its 2014 price for the fourth straight Christmas across a 14-item ham range in the Woolworths Christmas ham update. The price applies in Australia only.

Shoppers elsewhere need a local circular, not this figure. Coles said its Single Smoked Beechwood Half-Leg Ham held at $8 per kg from Nov. 4, 2026, unchanged for four years, with a 5-kg ham serving about 26 people for $1.54 per serve in the Coles Christmas ham update.

Per-serve math assumes the stated weight and servings. A smaller or larger leg changes the total.

When should you buy?

Coles advises early ham shopping because its Christmas hams use 100% Australian higher-welfare pork and carry use-by dates beyond Christmas Day, letting shoppers spread costs. A use-by date is the last date the maker rates the food as safe when stored as directed. Check the printed date on the ham you pick.

University of Delaware Extension, citing federal cold-storage guidance, lists fully cooked vacuum-sealed unopened ham at 2 weeks or use-by date refrigerated and 1-2 months frozen in the Extension refrigerator storage guide. Vacuum-sealed means air removed and the package sealed. Buy early only when you have fridge or freezer space to hold it safely.

How do you compare offers fairly?

USDA's Agricultural Marketing Service publishes a weekly National Retail Report tracking advertised pork and ham prices from major-store circulars and digital promotions for Oct. 17-29, 2026. Use that type of circular survey to set a local baseline.

Then compare the same cut and weight unit. Check these limits beside the big number before you travel: Low headline prices required loyalty-app coupons or commissary eligibility in the United States examples, while the $8 per kg prices are Australia-only.

  • unit price per lb or per kg for the same bone-in or boneless cut
  • coupon, app, membership, quantity, and date limits
  • store eligibility, including commissary access and Australia-only pricing
